I don't think fitness means they necessarily score more goals.
It's to reduce the likelihood of injuries or playing badly.
See, I see it as stamina, so their other skills don't drop as quickly in the game. For example, a low fitness player only plays at 60% of their skills at 80 minutes, a high fitness player plays at 80% of their skills at 80 mins?
