Player tiers and gems after season

Hi, How situation looks with player tiers, does it downgrade after season and w will need to buy again?
Does gems reset after season or they stay?
Would be grateful for more specifics

Hey Manager! The Key Attribute increase gained with Player Tiers does not downgrade with the new season. It is permanent and active until the player retires. However, please keep in mind that this doesn't prevent the star loss of the promotion.
As for the second question - all Gems, that are not spent in the meantime, are stashed and carried over into the next season.

Yes I finished 9th last season
I did not deliberately tank last season and I have already got promoted consecutively for a few seasons before that
I am a F2P player and last season my team was just not competitive enough for promotion
It is so annoying that they forcefully remove a star from my already not competitive enough squad

Ive just read that it takes 160 gems to tier up a player.

200 gems cost £49.99 !!!!

Some managers have a full squad of tiered up players!

Is there really that many people spending so much real money on the game?
