Question Spending tokens during first bid

This might be a topic that has already been discussed, but why on earth do people spend 15-20 tokens when they first bid for a player? If you have those tokens, just bid later if someone else also bids?! If you bid 1T and nobody else bids, you've saved those 20 tokens.

Is there a tactical aspect here that I'm missing?

This could be a tactical aspect too that you bid 20 tokens and by this you fear your opponents not to bid anymore. Because most of the times those 20 tokens are minimum to buy something. I dont know how you can buy something with 1t nowdays, maybe 3star player. With previous market system you could buy players with 1 token but not with current.
Or another one could be that bots are bidding. That's another theory.
Third - they do not care how much tokens they spend in order to buy a player.

Sounds silly that you’d use tokens just to scare people, but I’ve reckoned that as well. I just feel in case you do have those tokens why waste them? Weird.
