Renewing player contracts

I had three players whose contracts expired at the end of last season. I had applied skill points to the players throughout the season until my champions league place for this season was secured. I let all three of their contracts expire and signed all three today on day 1. All three had their value decrease. All three wanted the same wage both last season and this season. All three had a lower signing bonus this season. All three wanted a contract for two years (which doesn't really matter b/c the contract expires after the same upcoming season either way.) So, I would have to say it is better to wait until the new season to sign the contract.
