Because you're always trying to bid at the last second and the game lags sometimes.

Like they said, especially for you who have some tokens, avoid to bid in the last seconds. Better do it at the start and only when you don't have tokens bid in the last seconds.
I'm surprised you got to level 17 without previously realising this....
