    Tactics vs 3-3-2-2

The player in question has same player quality as mine (19.1 vs 18.9), and here's the formation

    ----ST--ST----
    AML--------AMR
    ----MC-MC-MC---
    -----------------
    DL----DC-----DR

I'm pretty sure the DC has a down arrow.

I checked out Adel Gama's thread and only "3-3-2-2" info I found was that it can be used to counter forms with weak flanks

    I'm thinking of doing this

    ----ST----
    AML--------AMR
    --MC-MC-MC-
    DML-------DMR
    ----DC--DC--

is that a good idea? if not, what form(s) would better give me an edge in the match?

Your formation is illegal because you only have 2 defenders, you need at least 3. You'll have only 20 possession if you play that.

    --------ST---------
    AML------------AMR
    -----MC----MC-----
    ----DMC---DMC-----
    DL------DC------DR

I'd use the formation below with zonal marking and attack him down the wings, but you might not have the personnel to do it.

thanks for your help ^ ^, lets see how I do in the actual match then. I actually do have the personnel :P I like to buy players who can fit 2 roles (3 is a bonus, but those always get into long bidding wars I cant afford token-wise).

I have at least 2 players able to play in each position.

If you are at home, I would also recommend attacking mentality and blue arrows on your MCs and maybe DMCs, I would leave your defenders alone, and red arrows on your AML and AMR, maybe on your DL and DR as well. Short passing, possibly hard tackling if you want to take the risk. Pressing style is up to you, but lately I've been experimenting with just own half pressure and neither offside traps nor counter attacks and getting results.

If you are away, it might be risky to play the same, lately I've been happy to settle for draws away from home.
