I couldnt expect my thread was already in the tutorial and guide and was so lazy to find it in the formation and tactic area. Btw, I found it already and will be speedy answer any concerns from now on.
Since you choose to play with 3 dc, your squad naturally tends to move forward more already. Accordingly, if you are concerning whether your 3 dcs can't handle against 1 very good lone ST or 2 sts, you should really play with 4 defs at your own half. But in my view, it doesnt really matter if you are playing against 1 or 2 or even 3 good sts, because it all depends on the "during match situation", if your 3 dcs play well, they have good rating, if they aint, they have bad rating in the vice verse. The chance is 50-50, stick to your favorite formation, just change the tactic against different formation, so your players get familiar to the formation, and they feel more comfortable, contribute more and have better rating.
For example: you are playing 4-4-2 classic against 4-3W-3. If both team quality are similar, put red arrows on 2 MC, focus passing through middle and leave your winger w/o any arrows so they will better zone mark while you have 2 mc against 1 lone mc-> logic and efficent-> like what Qambu Yaasi said, in specific cases, even with wingers, your team focus dont always have to be down both flanks as if you do so, your 2 MC will contribute less, and remember sometimes your flanks got block, your wingers got marked and 2 MC might be the key to win a match.
