Skill Points for Playing Games?

Do my players gain skills for participating in actual games (league, CL, or Cup)? I'm new to the game and noticed in one game that some of my players gained some additional points, but that was only in 1 game out of probably 20 games I played so far.

That depend on player age and your team skill gain.If your players are 30+ old then they may not get much skill points and check your skill gain in training menu of every player.That gain keep on increasing and you get one skill point for that.Your player may be getting skill gain after match and later that convert into skill ponit.
