Assistant manager’s in-game comments : Truth or Troll ?

We all know that assistant manager is an interesting feature of the game, many times it’s broken but some times he can be useful.
Let’s see which comments we can use and which are troll.

* This is thread based on my personal experience but I hope many other managers can contribute too. It’s more useful for the new players of the game, as the older are familiar with their assistant.

My suggestion is to ignore all the advice of a.m. about Attack/ Defense mode.
“Our opponent is weaker, let’s go all out attack and finish the job”.
No, if you were playing defense/counter and got a good result, keep that way.
If you ‘re loosing 0-1 and a.m. says to go for attack, you may concede another goal from oppo defense/counters orders.
If you ‘re playing attack/normal , you ‘re winning easily and he ‘s saying to go back in defense, ignore him. Keep that way and maybe you ‘ll increase the score and get better stats for your players.

Many times it seems that he ‘s talking for another game so some comments about the game flow are out of topic. Just ignore.

Also when you ‘re playing the second leg of knock out games, be careful with his comments about who ‘s passing in the next round. Remember the score of the 1st leg and the rules of the game (the away goals matter).


Orders – this is the interesting part.
Let’s check.

When you ‘re winning and he says to sub some of your best players as the victory is secure, ignore him. Just follow your plans.

When he says to switch to the side were your players perform best, check. If one of your wingers has a good rate and the opponent defender has a bad one, go in orders and choose that side.

Be careful with fouls - Their free-kicks are looking dangerous : that’s a troll.

Usually if oppo is same q or better, I start with defense/counter mix pass. When a.m. saying to try long pass, I switch to that but only if oppo doesn’t have any DM.
Also check the stats. If passing is bellow 85%, avoid that.

Let’s push forward, give some pressure, … : I switch to high pressure unless I ‘m pleased with the score and don’t want to spend the condition of my players without no reason.

If saying about we are too soft with our opponents (and it has some in game logic), switch to hard tackling.

Off side trap is confusing our players – remove the off-side if it’s active.

Ya I spent a few games trying to apply the AM's advice & honestly, more often than not, it has backfired. So now, just to avoid confusion - I rarely check it. I find it way more useful to keep an eye on the passing stats & the player ratings.

As you said, especially when it comes to attacking or defensive strategy - completely ignore the AM & trust your own judgment & players. If a certain strategy is giving you wins, don't panic & start changing it around just because you're a goal down or ease off pressure cause you are in the lead.

For fouls, again - simply keep an eye on the fouls stat & modify your orders accordingly. Go easier if conceding too many. Hard, I usually go only if facing equal or stronger opponents.

I'm generally ok with mixed passing - short only if I'm being overrun by the opposition & want to hold possession. Not much of a long pass player. Sometimes the AM's suggestion here of switching to short pass seems to work better. But again, your passing stats should be enough of an indicator for you to make changes or not.

As for pressure, again - I think high pressure is helpful though draining on condition. I rarely change it, even if the manager says otherwise & only if I'm in a confident lead in the 2nd half.

On a side note, Nik - what's your take on high/low pressure. Does it make a significant difference in performance for the increased condition loss?

Also with Offside trap - how useful is it really? I kinda have it on almost always & feel that it works. But don't really have any data to prove otherwise. What do you think?

well Palash, T11 is a managerial game, gathering sources, build the team and facilities and follow a general plan.
It's far from being a coaching game .
One thing you can do is to set up formation and tactics (which is the fourth factor for me)
and try to find some "keys" during the game.

The Live game is cosmetic, it's just preset visual scenarios.
Stats also isn't something you can count on it to take decisions.
Actually there is no coaching based on real football.
Off side trap is just a button that can reverse a game's calculation.
Not much logic with real football
(players in one line,
a team learning to play off side after practice,
characteristics of defenders or attackers matter).
It's just a button and I 'm trying to find some signs , maybe some times from the a.m.

High pressing and mtm marking also has nor relation with real football.
They are two buttons which take something from your team (more condition) and give something for exchange
- but not every time.

i can see two things
One is that your a.m, is in another field - lol
The other is that your orders didn't have any effect in the team
So remove them, not to spend extra condition without a reason.

It's hard to believe him when he says to use hard press to get the ball back early and then 10 'minutes' later says 'are you sure you want to use hard press this early in the game?'.

I consider a.m. as a spy who's taking a peek in game's secret calculations.
Also a program that check the current stats of the match and (randomly) pick some of the weak points of those it can spot.
So Talisman, in the beginning he spotted that maybe we have fewer shots on target or much less tackling from our oppo and suggested the high pressing.

After some re-calculations of the game flow, he spotted some of the weak points again.
(Some times it's more than one, some times maybe there isn't, so he speaks generally - Let's beat those amateurs , for example).
One of them was that our condition is too low for that moment of the game and suggested to remove that.
A.m. hasn't a general plan in his mind (like we do), just suggesting randomly advice.

...you know ma thoughts related to this man... ...the actual assistant should be sacked and Khris should be the new one.

1/ Skip tactical advice from the assistant , Always wrong
2/ Assertive statements are true
example : Do you see how long our passes are breaking the enemy's defenses?
Means playing the ball long right
3/Questions, suggestions 70% wrong

Yeah. This one always does my head in. If after all these seasons I still don't know how to stop counterattacks, how the hell does the opposition?

When we set an order, that doesn't mean that the game will follow those exact orders without any derogation.
We 're not Diego Simeone, start kicking ass or slapping the players who didn't obey - lol
Meaning that even if we have set defense- no counter -short passing, there is a moment that the game will give us a chance for a counter attack after a long pass.
(specially if oppo is attacking and doesn't have any DM position).

4-5-1 v, defense/counters/flank (but mix pass, not long) I would say that is my favorite formation (even if playing vs weaker teams).
So, if my a.m. says "our counters don't work", I remove them.
I also check the rates of my wingers and the rates of oppo DL-DR.
Maybe I 'll make a sub or switch to normal

A good counter for oppo counters is to set mtm marking (and of course to have a DMC).
Maybe to set back arrows to your defenders but rarely I use them.

I had remove counterattack too when A.M said YOUR OPPONENT KNOW HOW TO STOP COUNTERATTACK. its useful when play with Defensive / no counter / mixed passing. My team still can score goal. One thing, I have no idea how to setup the ARROW when playing with 4-5-1V. I use Up arrow for AML, AMR and down arrow for 2 DC. Sometimes I change no arrow to AML, AMR and I Up arrow for DL, DR or both wingback and AML,AMR had arrow.

So, my question: Can I play with same arrow setting for any formation?

From my experience, I would say it is probably like what Nik said - the A.M is like someone peeking into the opponents orders and so on, and giving you hints. During a period (early times of the assistant manager), the advice were more reliable - reliable in terms of positive effect in the match. A.M gives you an advice, you follow and you are rewarded. Another advice, you follow, and you are rewarded. Nowadays, it seems that the effect is less, and also many changes done in respect to the A.M advice go like unnoticeable and some even make things worst. In the case fixed results or pre-determined results, whatever you will be doing according to the assistant advice would be like pressing on the keys on a keyboard of which the cable has not been plugged.

There are some things that are really annoying though. For example, the A.M tells you to do A, and then the very next advice is to remove A. Examples are as follows. An advice in the game, is not to tackle hard, and then later tells you to tackle hard. First advice of a match, the opponent knows how to stop our counter-attacks, and then the very next advice: our fast players could break down the opponent's defence if we use counter-attacks. It is understandable that some instructions change as a game proceeds and may be the opposite of what was appropriate early in a match, but it cannot change that quick (between one advice and another - few minutes), and that too when you are playing against a team whose manager is not present (unless something else is changing the orders of the opposing team).

Another annoying thing is when you have a plan, and started the game with the plan, and you have to go completely against the plan because of the A.M and that only resulted to an undesirable match result.

it's possible that synchronicity can cause this.
My tip (as for the most important games of the season)
if you have the app too much time open, few min before the game, close and re-open it.

Yep, because I feel we need to examine todays AM "magical-weird" advices, and how to understand them in the way we can take the measures :)


Like for example, a list with all the known AM advices + their meaning explained ( for dummies ).
2nd thing, explaining the needed change according the given advice from the AM.

If a.m says that your defense should keep an eye on their attackers or somehow similar - you probably concede a goal. Or when he says that you look comfortable in game, take possession and bla bla you can close a game because you probably win. I hate this **** because he usually knows before the time when you score a goal or concede.

I remember smth like : The ball can't go to our attackers, consider improving our attack.
This displayed, when I experimented smth ( attacking mentality, both flanks, mixed, no counters/High press, normal tackling, zonal, offsides ON ).
Equal teams, only me was there, no other manager. Home game with 1 friend support.
Bonus used - attack, possesion. 2nd half - condition.
The AM said that during 1st half, I ignored it. Won 5-0.
Any suggestions ?

The concede goal part I noticed this a few times. When I didn't make change I concede goal but when I did make changes my team played a bit better. What change I made that I don't remember. We have to test it by trusting AM advice. Let's see.

No but i say that when am says that your defense should careful - you concede in few moments. Same when am says we are in lead, lets play smart possession or you can send your best players to the shower and than in few moments you score a goal. Lol, he is a wizard, oracule - he know what will be in future.

And yes, someone could make a guide about am advices. Sometimes it's more mysterious than game engine.

Not always. But yeah many times if we don't make a change.
And yes sometimes am can predict what is going to happen in next few minutes.

A guide will difficult because it's a bit of randomness and the advice can differ if we make immediate changes.

Nah, i won't fool myself that ass man feature is working even in a small %
The comment that we are about to get knocked out after winning 1st round and winning the 2nd round too,it's enough for me lol

Sometimes he is actually right and helpful. That's why it would be better if some1 knows all the AM advices, to post them here, so experienced ppl could explain us the advices more closely.
In the other hand, knowing what a speciffic advice means, ppl like me can take their decisions according to the current situation they are in atm.
I hope I've explained the need of such guide correctly :)

too many failures

I completely ignore Assistant Manager.

My assistent even does not know my players names… why should I follow his advice? E.g.: I saw an action of player A and ass mentioned B did it. So I think ass man is just decoration and no use.
