What to do in order to have worse teams in next season?

I remember that I've read somewhere that in order to have worse teams in next season you can decrease the quality of your team by buying crap players.. Is this how to it works? The engine matches us up with players with similar quality?

That is indeed correct. You can sign some 3* players of the lowest quality before end season and then when the next season begins you can sell them back off again.

another way to lower your quality: save skillpoints of your players till day1 of next season

the opponents in cup get chosen by team strenght. worse team, worse opponents, higher win chance

Now it makes sense but I prefer to get stronger teams instead of these kind of expedients

what is the point of playing if you want to win without facing stronger rivals?
where is the fun to win with no challenge?

Play to win, nobody asks who you won against, they only remember if you won or not
