Question about the different facilities

Okay, so I've been playing for like two months and still am learning the different aspects of the game.

Is someone able to tell me what the benefit of the different constructions are? Most of them are pretty straight-forward, but I can for the life of me not figure what difference the scoreboard does. More attending fans?

Can you imagine walking into a 42k capacity stadium and seeing a basic manual scoreboard?

I imagine it's just like the lights, they need to be upgraded at certain times before you can make the major improvements. They're a sort of stop-gap between upgrade levels.
