I don't think 4231 will counter his 424. Both formations are similar: stronger attacking all areas, but terrible defending through the middle. So you know where you have to attack him.
And if you don't have a bad day, I believe you can save your season, with some sort of 41212ND, even that his team is stronger than yours.

Try to predict his instructions to make yours (spy his recent matches haha).
If he plays short, for me man2man marking have been working better. If he plays long, high pressure.
