A scientific approach to the all-new youth academy

Hey there guys,

in the last few days many of us, including myself, are wondering what to expect of the new youth academy coming to TE on Tuesday, December 10th.

As I am very excited and curious about it and I am also lucky enough (lol really?) to manage 4 teams with Level 10 youth academies I want to open a thread, where we test the hell out of this new thing and do every kind of stupidity, you are able to do with the new youth academy.

I will update this at least once a week with news from all 4 of my teams. Please feel free to also leave your own experiences down below as comments in this forum thread.

For an introduction I want to briefly mention the 4 teams I am going to use for this and my plans for the first 16 players of Youth Academy.

Team 1 - Main Team
This will be my normal team. As a manager who watches ad videos for green packs and powertrains players, I am not very interested in getting high overall players out of the youth academy. I just want them to be fast trainers and fit into my team. We will try to find a fast trainer DC (DMC) player who I can use in my squad next season and also sign 3 other talents who we will test for their abilities. No token and greens spent on coaches!

Team 2 - Test Team 1
So this team is basically a team, where a 60-70% player would probably make the first team in a new season. So we will just sign some players and maybe spend a few token and greens to play around with the cheaper coaches for one week or so.

Team 3 - Test Team 2
Same like Test Team 1 above, just to larger the samplesize.

Team 4 - The YOLO Maniac Team
So this is some team, where I got a few Token and greens left from old times, where I played it more actively. We will sign a few players and also spend some stuff on coaches. On this team, we will also have one player who we buy 3 weeks the most expensive coach, so we will try to get the best available player possible out of the youth academy. Why? Because we can and for the laughs.

So youth intake phase is finally here and today we signed the first prospects to our academies. The fact that you can't select positions or preferred position like it was said before, is a bit of a letdown.
However on the 2 Test teams we still selected 4 people, who we think are good enough to make it. I tried to pick positions I kind of need and also pick various prices of the players, so that we have a wide range from 0 to 6 (which seems to be the max) Token to test later if they are any different in terms of the training speed.
Also what I noticed is, you seem to get 2-3 players for free and the rest you need to spend token on. The price seems to be random at first glance.

Test Team 1 made these selections:

DC for free, DL for free, DMC for free and ST for 6T

I will update later who I picked on my main team and the yolo Team. I still hope, that maybe tomorrow or later, some new youth players will arrive in the young talent center, but I kind of doubt it.

As of now I’m only choose the free & defensive players because my AML/AMR already good enough for 3-5 seasons
Now I’m intrigued to spend for experimenting what & why the 4* ST is at max token price :confused:

I will wait my friend @Der_Ryan to present his guide.
But my guess is that the ft would be those with 6 tokens.
If you want to build a scout quality youngster, don't be cheap for 2-3 tokens.

Potential after the training and I guess that is the Min. potential using the free coach.

When I added a player to an empty slot from the list, I think the % quality shown on his profile slightly increased. It was only slightly, e.g. it was 56% when on the list but after I signed him, he shows 60%. Did you notice something like this?

Yes, the % changes when you add them to the academy. Not sure why, maybe the first % is an estimate which then gets more accurate once you've got them in your academy... or maybe it's just Nordeus!!

So today I post the selections of my other 2 teams before we can tomorrow start investing in coaches and see the side of the youth academy.

On my main team I selected:

AMC for free, MR for free, DMC for 3T and DL for 4T

So overall my choice on this account was pretty poor, I had no 5T and 6T selection and the positions could also be better. Yet I still picked a DMC that I could use next season and the DL, who I could use the season after. I don't expect much from the free players, but they will be ok subs for the last 2 to 5 minutes. lol

The YOLO team picked these players:

MR for free, MR for free, MC for 2T, DC for 4T

As my assumption at the moment is this, that the more expensive your youth player is in terms of tokens, the faster of a trainer he is, we will use the 4T DC as our player who we invest in the most expensive coach 3 times, starting tomorrow and see what we get out of it.

The gaining from the coaches depends from the current quality of the players (with the old classic logic - the higher the the quality, the harder gaining).

Little sidenote as well, you can now set your preferred position for the next season as well, which is generally a very good thing.

So I wanted to show you what it looks like when you apply the different coaches on the player.
It should also be possible to apply multiple coaches at the same time, so if you wanted to you can apply all 3 coaches every week, which would make the best player, but is crazy expensive.

I decided to select the local coach for 7 days for the guy, he does improve his overall % by 13,3% (even though it firstly said 16,5% on the picture, which is a lie) which isn't too bad for this price.
In my opinion the worst one to select is the senior coach, who is too expensive for what he does. Imo he has the worst price-performance ratio, the other 2 seem like better options also for their respective price.

Also I must say, that generally the coaches are too expensive and not really worth it. I now payed 6 Token to sign + 15T and 25 greens for a coach to get a 75% player. This is above average, I can get a 75% striker 18yo in the new season for probably 10 Token and no greens. So for me it is absolutely not worth it, on my main team I would never buy a coach, what is very sad, because it is again a feature in the game not well balanced and just not worth it.

So I just spent 80 Token and 70 greens on my DC and he has already gone up from 58% to 103% within the first week of coaching. Now this doesn't sound too bad, maybe the more you spend, the better value? Sure 80T is a lot, but when you consider training, this is about 150 greens, it's ok value on that part.
We'll see next week when we are spending big again on YOLO Maniac youth squad. (Or when some other worthwhile coach is lurking around)

Yup. that FK taker for 5Token, 20Green definitely quite cheap for me. Might choose ST/attacker with high shoot,finish for next season
I made a mistake earlier, I thought can use intensive 1 day coach for all 4 players so I just pick any player and then I read again can only use it to 1 player. Bummer!
Anyway my advice is to give the intensive to any player with higher +green % over lower one. in your case 10.3% is quite low, mine is 20% and 27%

Yeah it depends on your overall your player already has I think. When I book the head coach next week again, my player will not benefit that much anymore, it's that you can't really create monster players. Imo any further investment in this player will be a waste, I'm not sure if I will buy all the coaches 3x, when the last one only gives me 5% or so.
But freekick SA definitely a good deal!

@DerRyan Will it be possible to find out if the youth players have any impact on the league, cup and CL draw?

It looks like the quality is much higher than the usual 2* for our free player which kind of makes them useless unless we need cash

I don't think they have impact, but no way to find out really unless you have a low rated squad and 4 really good youth players... Or maybe sell all players, keep 10 and see if you get generic players to fill up your squad. Would make no sense if they count for top 14 imo, think they are unsigned like the other youth players always were.

I think there is a chance they might be counted. It really depends on whether the draw is using end season quality or day 1 new season quality after they automatically move our youths to main. 3 youths @ 60 plus quality Vs negative 1 star players makes a big difference.

Thanks mate. Will probably use the 4 good quality youth method to try it out when I save up enough tokens and after your guide confirms which are FTs :). I remember reading that out of contract players count as well so this might not be any different.

Yeah players run out of contract count, but that would make even more sense when the top 14 quality is determined at the end of the season, not the start of next one, where they are basically "gone".

Again we have some new coaches and I really like the way they are implementing these, costing different ressources, sometimes token and greens, sometimes red and blue and so on. It's not bad and the cheap intensity coach isn't too bad when you have still a lower overall player, as it grants 6-7% quality for a little amount of miscellaneous packs.

For my DC however on the yolo team, it's now at a point, where everything is very expensive for the quality progression that it offers. So I booked the local coach one more time for 15T and 25 greens, which brings him up to 120%. Even the expensive intensity coach for 66T plus some other stuff only grants him +10% at this point and it's absolutely not worth it anymore for this player.
So in total we invested 95 Token + 157 greens + 11 blues + 35 reds into getting a 7 star player 18 yo at the start of next season, which we don't know if he is gonna be a fast trainer. It's not really great value, but also not extremely bad like some other offers in the game... *hmm 8 star loan offer*

Only thing I will touch this player again is when there is good SA offer for defenders, like aerial defender or wall.

I think it would be better in the beginning to sign for training all those 8 players of the list, free or not, test them in training and then sign only max 4 of them the new season.
Also to be sure that we can add those 2 defending sa if we choose defenders.
The pack for adding f-k specialist was reasonable but what to do with this if you have GK-MC-DC in your slots ?

Are the youth players actually free especially when the tokens have been made to look transparent. They just arrived and are 100 percent. Sounds way to good to be true.

No, they're not free. Mine cost 35 tokens and 99 tokens, so think twice, if you actually want them or not.

Ryan, we do know you are spending a fortune of tokens on this youth.

Really appreciate it if you could let us know later if this new youth player is training-sensitive enough and could be further power-trained to say 9* with comparable greens of usual 99% to 8*.

We'll know tomorrow who of all 16 guys I selected is gonna be a FT. I think it will be very expensive to improve this 7 star youth player to 9 stars, it generally is with players, whos skills are balanced. I trained players to 9 stars or even 180% before but they were all low grey, high white players, who are good for training...

On my main account all 4 of my selections are slow trainers, which is very disappointing, even though I didn't invest in any coaches. I will now take a look into the other teams.

On Test Team 2 we selected the players above. Test Team 2 is now Level 17, a level 17 FT of around max quality is 105M, however these players are lower quality. A level 15 FT of max quality (which is equal to Level 17 56-59% player is around 98M. So it is safe to say that none of the 3 lower quality players is a FT, they are all around mediocre trainers.
The ST is 104.6M, which should be quite ok, unfortuately I have no comparison right now. I will update the post once I bought a few young talented players from auctions and see their quality and value.

These are the guys on the YOLO team. The 2 4 star guys are again bad, the other ones, not sure. The 81% MR seems ok with 127,7M for his quality. On this level (42) I can't 100% tell you the values for FTs anymore, unfortunately.
I have 2 guys of which I surely know they are FTs on this team, they are 20 years old and 80% and 82% quality and they are 127,6M. So just by guessing here, I'd say the 127.7M MR is not that bad, the DC should be not good again.

I tested SA with the MR and he was kind of mediocre trainer. Again, I can for sure say that none of these players is a first class fast trainer.
I will keep an eye open for good FTs in these qualities on the market to have comparison players.

For people who are interested in the skills of the pay to win DC - he is just a normal balanced player like Scout.

So do we have any initial thoughts or findings to test out this season?

Are the original token values significant? Are the 6 token players the fast trainers? Or is it more random than that?

Is the original predicted quality important? Are the players that are originally predicted to get over 65% fast trainers?

It feels like there are a lot of variables in the Youth Academy (classic Nordeus), but there are usually patters to be found.

I trained two of the free YA players from 80% to 100% and they took 217 Greens, one needed 104, the other 113.
They had started at around 67% but I never bothered collecting the info until a round number hence the 80/100
I'm tempted to open a thread on the discussion forum as more people seem to use it asking for exactly the same info, ie the initial cost of the player and how many greens to take the player up one star from 5 to 6
No comments about how good or bad,just data, and see how much we can gather?

I think from my testing I can so far confidently say, that the initial token values are not correlated to being fast trainers.

Which leaves I think these possible scenarios:
- Either like you said, their initial quality says something... Or they gain differently from coaches.
- Or the more you spend for coaches, the better trainers they'll eventually become at the end. (hard to test, only low level via market values)
- Or its completely random.

I got one fast traines (the guy I've developed during the season) and 3 not fast, the ones i did nothing all season!

Let's give it another look this year!

Very useful, I will give it another try this season and invest in one of my players on my main account and on another account to further test this assumption...

What do you tinhk of the spetial training so far, it seems kind of expensive to me

not worth it. better use coach that cost boosters not token. it's better to have lower % 18yo at start of new season than higher and train them yourself!

When did you get this role coach? Is it available now? All I have right now are the intensity coach and the special coach, both of which cost tokens. I would use the role coach if it costs 20 packs each.
