I had this happen as well, it is a major bummer. But the timing rotates so it won't happen again for quite some time. You can also (somewhat) control the timing by when you start an upgrade of the Academy.

I think Nordeus should warn of this issue if they know it's happening. Or at least, they should compensate those players who suffer this problem
