I don't think you understand everything. It actually depends on how they store the account info. If they have history records of the accounts they can easily revert back to a previous stage. Also, it is a good practice to have history recorded for various purposes.

I would wait to hear it from them and the reasoning behind it.

Nope, nothing can be done in these cases, If it's the same account that you've not used for months or so, and now you've loged in again, simply, your team start again.
