how to beat 4-4-2 with 2 goals?

I just lost a cup game vs an inactive team with avg value 46 while my starting lineup had avg value 53.
The other team outclassed me really but my goalie saved me like 5-6 times to keep the scoreline 3-1. This means I lost 3-1.

The other team used a 4-4-2 and I used 4-5-1 V. I outshot me and out possession me despite me having 7% possession bonus. So obviously the 4-5-1 V is NOT working at all against the 4-4-2 anymore.


So Now I need your help to find a tactic that works really well against the 4-4-2. Any tips?

I'd play the 4-4-2 narrow diamond, it works really well against 4-4-2 whenever I use it. 3-2-2-2-1 butterfly is alright too if you have the right players, but narrow diamond works better in my opinion.

but haven't the narrow diamond stopped working 100% against the 4-4-2?

I think the 4-5-1 V stopped working, narrow diamond still works for me. but you know you can never trust the game engine as it's so random.
