I don't know if you still need an answer to this, but I maybe got an answer for you.
I've saw really much people playing in the champions league against this formation and most times they won using 4-1-4-1.
    Maybe you could try that.

Tried 4-1-4-1 with a much better team, had no chance against 4-4-2 classic. What is this zomfg?

Against 4-4-2 classic this season use 4-1-3w-2 or 4-1-3w-1-1 . I guarantee success. Tested myself against very strong team. If you see its dosnt working and you dont outplay your.opponnent then this.mean nordeus.put back to.normal the.situation about 4-4-2 classic so if.that is the case fast swith to 4-1-2-1 ND will fix the things. For both formation my advice is to.use*Mantality: attackingPasses: mixed!Passes trought: mixedTackles: normal. If you play against stronger team use hard.No.counter no offside

i think the best formation this season are 4-4-2 and 4-2-2-2.i use always 3n-4-1-2 against 4-4-2 and i always win.
attacking, red arrow only to amc,mix passes, normal tackling, own half, zonal, attack from the middle and counter on.
and against 4-2-2-2 i use 3n-dml,dmr-2mc,amc,2st with the same orders.

4-4-1-1 through the middle, while 4-4-2 has no dmc, why dont we go with an Amc

Always play a 4-3-3 situation but with some accurate adjustments To have rotating players. Keep it narrow, play midfield. Basically what you have to get is one of your strikers moves into a slight Amc position in defense. Mid Mc into a dmc position and one Dc going over the wing during attack (pref a dc/drc) this way you keep plenty defense against 2 strikers, you have enough power in midfield and enough scoring power in the front but one very important asset is the fact you shut down their wingers.

keep mixed passing. Counter and offside off, zonal marking, attack play, normal tackles, and pass through midfield.

    The backs stay as is.

Which formation is the worst for you?
If you play 442 then you can help us.

I was thinking 442 narrow diamond
