4-5-1V vs 4-1-2-1-2

Both 4-1-3W-2 and 4-5V-1 don't work consitent for me (FCK level 12). I tried both in the CL and got close matches (1 close loss, 1 close win) with having a slight quality advantage. There must be a better option, maybe something asymmetrical. The key is to find the right balance between blocking the center and attacking over the flanks when playing the system in higher levels.
