counter against 4-4-2?

Hello will play CL final and cup final against 4-4-2....i used it too sometimes and i really do not know how to counter it. on paper both finalists have better q than me. One by 4 points one by 1 point...so how should i play? i experimented with 3w-1-3w-1-2 against it a bit won the games but was the better team...maybe that is why....if anyone has a formation that worked well on more than one occasion against the 4-4-2 please share your insight.

4-1-2-1-2 (narrow diamond) attacking through the middle, or 4-1-2N-3 (because I had an effing strong team but lost twice to a weak team using that formation)

I always have many Probs against 4-4-2 and now in CL Final also want to try 4-5-1V
I understand, Down Both Flanks, Mixed Passing, but what about Mentality?
Attacking+No Counter? Normal+Counter?


And if this game would NOT be on a neutral Place for example at home or away, what kind on mentality then?

wow thx for input guys....curious now if u had always good results with your formations as all of you use a different formation...

Tonight the big cup game and i am afraid as he has 4 more points than my team...so i need a really good way to counter it
