4-1-3N-2 can be beaten by 4-3-2-1 with AML/AMR
I think this is a very useful thread, as you said it's impossible to use the search function for formations and this will definitely reduce the amount of "how to beat XXX formation" threads on here.
May I have a question :) I'm not a fan of counter formations, who do you know which work against other? I mean nobody proved that.
I wasn't a big fan of counter formations either, but with all those posts in the How to win against any formation thread or various other how to beat this formation, It helps if we can devise some sort of table if they want to improve chances of winning against various formations, I've played about and switched formations in important cup games last season and it does help.
I'm sorry for the offtopic and I started this discussion but I think there should be a note that it don't bring you victory 100% :)).
I saw on Adel and not only that even if they used they lost and sometimes pretty bad, of course they won too sometimes.
3W-2N-2N-2W-1 not giving the counter though :)
4-4-2 can also be beaten by the butterfly formation. 4-5-1 V isn't as effective if the opponent puts red arrows on ML/MR. Butterfly takes care of that with the wingbacks
Against 3W-5-2 V style I have also found the butterfly to be useful, beating my opponent twice in the CL.
And against 5-3-2 (wide and narrow) I have found the 3N-4-1-2 formation to be effective.
3N-5-2 flat can be beaten by 4-5-1 V
Outstanding thread, July.
According to my lists:-
4-3W-3 is beaten by 4-4-2 classic, attacking, down flanks, own half, normal, zonal with O/S trap
3-4-3 is beaten by 4-3N-2W-1, attacking flanks, whole pitch, normal, short passing, zonal with O/S trap
I'll add some more when I find them in my notes, lol.
And this thread should definitely be stickied :)
I've only got the narrow 3-4-3 in my notes. In fact I doubt I have ever played a 3-4-3 wide at the back.
The Brazilian  is also missing.
And when this is finished any one who leaves their playing formation on the board for the next match deserves everything they get. ;)
lol, You gotta think though, With many different formations being asked on a regular basis, since the inception of the old forum, why not make a table. not a lot of people are ever on the forums, 9,000,000 managers, but only 6,000 members??? and not that many visit and post everyday.
The most important thing left out is the fact that the relative strength of squad is more important than formation
I think tactic is important for manger and need to work on player performance also.
we only have 22 slot of player to put in and did not have all position cover for all formation.
we need some back-up player for injury too. so anyone can think of play a player out of his comfort zone?
I've Removed 3-2-2-2-1 Butterfly vs 4-2-2-2 Hexagon, There seems to be some bad results when the butterfly faces the hexagon lately.
Did you change the counter for 5-3-2- wide and narrow? i mentioned 3N-4-1-2 but it's different there now, it worked for me 4 times and it worked for someone else on here too
How about versus 4-4-1-1?
Will this formation counter?

Butterfly beats 4-3-2-1 (AML/AMR)
I am up against a strange variation of 4-3-3 today, midfield consists of DMC/MC/AMC and the rest is normal but I will be treating this like a normal 4-3-3. Against a 4-3N-3 I was recommended formation (3N-1-3N-2-1), but I will confirm this tomorrow :)
And against 4-3W-3, 4-4-2 it wasn't so successful for me last season, losing 1-0 (Petersen played out of position that game) away then I used 4-5-1 V in the reverse fixture and owned his ass, so perhaps that also does well against it.
What about 3N-3DML/DMC/DMR-1-2AML/R-1 is that illegal? Is only 1 MC fine?
good to know that. it is the formation i always used in football manager. When i find an AML on the market i will give it a try. :)
why not? :)
Well most of us here have a passion for Football Management games rather than just T11.
any advice how to beat this formation??

Great topic, only thing i miss is wat about the arrows and tactic, then it would be superb :)
A fan!
how about the 4-2-1(amc)-2 formation ?
any advice about it ?
3-5-2 flat beats the 4-1-2-1-2 wide diamond. Added.
