In your opinion of course.
In terms of balance and success.
I'm not a naïve newbie (in my opinion!), I've been playing for 7 seasons and have achieved promotion every season. Won titles and cups along the way. Generally enjoyed success. However I'm feeling that the last two/three seasons I've underachieved somewhat. I've had generally one of the 'better' teams in terms of overall rating and player quality. I've mainly stuck to a 3-2W-2N-1C-2 formation. (3 centre halves, 2 wing backs, 2 centre midfielders, 1 central attacking midfielder, 2 strikers.
However, I'm noticing poor ratings from players who are 5/6 stars, players who were expensive and are fast trainers yet they play rubbish. I've also never had a winger who has been over 7 average rating for the season - despite always picking wingers of 5 stars, as it's become a position I've tried to focus on when strengthening. The other hugely frustrating thing is all 4 of my squads strikers have average ratings of 7.3 to 7.8! Meaning they should be scoring goals for fun BUT in fact they aren't. More concerning, I RARELY ever score in those "a timely pass to <name>, he MUST score" moments. Which I almost see as being open goals!! The opposition never fail to score these however.......
So all of the above is becoming highly frustrating. I can't actually remember the last time in about 4 seasons where I've had less than 50% of the possession either - yet I've had nowhere near the success I should have. I appreciate nobody has a divine right to win, but I'm constantly slipping up against teams much weaker than mine.
Which brings me to the original question, I'm thinking it could be due to the formation..... Or tactics. Should I look to change the formation?? Would I be better with full backs and wingers, so twice the wide men. Perhaps 3 central midfielders and only 1 upfront.....
Anyway, all advice is appreciated.
Cheers!
