Experienced manager giving countering advice for managers who need it

Hi sean. I enjoy reading your view on countering various tactics. I just lost a cup match 1-2 to a 4231. Thats the tactic i usually use myself but in the second leg where i need 2 goals im thinking og playing 41221 narrow to counter his off mid and to exploit the room in his def mid. I would go attacking, through the middle and short passing. We are of equal strenght. What do you think? Would a 451v be better?
