how to read formation?

if you tell me for example 3-1-2-2-2
how do i read that?
3 defenders 1 mid defender 2 mid 2 mid attackers 2 st?
ok but then where to put each one of them? i have 4 places in a for mid attackers and all that so where?
i did it like that is it good?
please help!
also what are all the eifel tower and butterfly and xmas tree and W and V and N ?
and how can i beat this formation
