What about a 4-4-2, where the ML is switched out with AML?

Have had some success with 4-1-2-1-2 ND against 4-4-2.
Which tactics/formation/orders would you recommend against this flanking formation?
Considering defensive, through the middle and counter..

No doubt he will focus on left flank.
Any advice ? Sadly I have no DML.

    Cheers!
I played, and won 2-1 at home!

I ended up playing a 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow Diamond, defensive with counter.
I watched, had 15% possession. 30 mins in he watched as well.

At 1-1 I switched to attacking, at 2-1 i went hard defensive, with counter.

Any questions, feel free to ask!
    Cheers!

i used 3-4-1-2 and won 5-0 vs a team stronger than me. I was away.
two days later i played him again with same tactics. He won.

    Randomness galore!

Problem with 4-4-2 is its versatility, which is also its weakness: there are many ways to set up a 4-4-2 without really messing it up, but also no real focus in the formation. Do they attack down the flanks? Mixed? Short, mixed, long passes? It also works with both a defensive and offensive tactic. That makes it difficult to find one single good counter formation. Not even counting individual strengths of weaknesses. It's why I always prepare for trouble when even a weak abandoned bot team has 4-4-2.
I prepare my squad in such a way that I can make a narrow diamond, a 4-4-2 myself and a V

    mentality: normal
    passing: mixed, through both flanks
    pressing: own half
    marking: zonal

    +counter attack

i had about 55% ball possession and WON the game 2:4 (0:3), waisting several other chances while he really just had those 2 chances which he converted into his 2 goals...

    cheers
Conceded a goal during the first half. Switched to attacking mentality and both halfs pressing and scored twice.
Overwhelmed a disturbing difference in the possession bonus caused by the number of fans supporting the other side.
    FT 2-1

    Thanks @Mister M
