Hard time against friend of mine...Need some help

So I have a friend with whom I've been for 3 consecutive leagues and next year we will be again in the same league. But I cant seem to beat him in the direct matches and I end up second...Every time he plays 4-4-2 like this:
    ST ST
    ML MC MC MR
    DL DC DC DC
    GK
    And I cant seem to beat him.From 6 games I had 1 draw and 5 losses. I've tried 4-1-4-1,4-4-2 (Classic),3-1-4-2
with attacking ML/MR and DL/DR or attacking DMC but none of these tactics work...We have almost the same quality in our teams: he has a little better Attack and Midfield, but my Defense is stronger.Any ideas how can i beat him next year? I'd really appreciate feedback.Thanks.

Well I tried 4-5-1V style and it was a total disaster. 3-1 for him... in my second match i tried 4-1-3N-2 and failed too...
