    Double B-Linds!

Daniel Lindskog made his first appearance in the league since recovering from injury and served up a classy display with a brace, helping Go Leo brush aside Elton FC 3-0.

Lindskog suffered an injury in a cup match early in the season and missed 7 league matches.

The Boss opted for an attacking 3-5-2 formation over the 4-5-1 which he normally prefers for league matches. With Barnabas Kovacs shielding the back three, Go Leo went into the break 2-0 up thanks to Lindskog who scored in the 15th & 35th minute.

The Boss revealed the change in formation was down to the fact that he wanted the team to score early.

"It was important to get ahead in terms of the scoreline to settle some nerves. There have been a lot of time that we have left it late to get the goals and playing a lone striker could have attributed to that."

"We have been doing well with three at the back in Champions' League matches so I didn't see any problems deploying the players similarly in the league. However my preference will always be having four at the back"

Quentin Anani grabbed a third ten minutes from time to add some gloss to the scoreline.

Matias Madrid who provided an assist was awarded man of the match and is simply the Lion's best player by far this season.

Madrid was the hero for Leo in an earlier league win at Bonai FC. The Argentinian singlehandedly saved the Lions from the jaws of defeat with two world class freekicks late in the game after Bonai FC took a shock lead after the break.

Go Leo now have 21 points from 8 matches but now faces a tough schedule ahead of them as they prepare to play six consecutive high profile matches, both in the league and Champions League - beginning with Xaitan in the Champions League tomorrow and Ude in the league. They will next face Ude (CL), Xaitan (League), Juventus (League) and Leonardo (League). All four teams are currently league title challengers.

    Lions downs VSOP

Go Leo climbed back up to the peak after a scintillating 3-1 win over closest rivals VSOP at Lion's Way. The win avenged their 2-3 defeat earlier in the season.

The Lions, who virtually have one foot in the quarterfinals of the Champions League after a 5-0 over Susolo, grabbed the initiative early when they raced to a two goal lead in the first half.

Daniel Lindskog notched a double - his eigth league goal in five appearances, while Matias Madrid scored a late third to secure the win.

Lindskog, a striker brought in early last season with this season in mind, latched onto Hector Bala's lay-off to open the scoring in the 24th minute. The Swede doubled Leo's lead from a setpiece when his header sailed past VSOP goalkeeper Enrico Accordino off a Madrid corner.

After VSOP pulled one back, very much against the run of play, Madrid made sure of the victory in the 85th minute with a thunderous drive from outside the box to restore their two goal cushion.

The Boss was please with their tough week in which they played 10 tough matches and have only lost twice, albeit one being a dead rubber, in that run.

"We had a tough week. But we are leading the pack and this is how we would want it to be. We want to control our own destiny and not rely on favours. This is ideal."

"We have a second leg today (in the Champions' League) and despite having a 5 goal advantage, I want the boys to go out and get a win to keep the momentum going."

Go Leo lead VSOP by one point and are a further four points ahead of third placed Xaitan.

    Lions Dumped

Go Leo saw their Champions League campaign ended at the quarterfinals stage after a 2-2 draw with New Era. This meant that Leo are out on away goals rule.

Both teams were evenly matched in terms of quality and going out of the competition in such a manner would definitely hurt them.

"Going out on away goals is not the best way exit any competition. But this is the furthest we've been in the competition so the boys can be proud of themselves. This is not a loss, just a technicality."

Following their exit, Go Leo got their head down and continued their business in the league, beating hosts Elton FC 2-1. Mid-season recruit Shinji Takizawa opened the scoring off a pinpoint pass from Robbie McKenzie, who came in for the suspended Juan Valencia.

Walter Gallo extended their lead in the first half with a long range strike but Elton pulled a goal back just after halftime.

Go Leo lead the table with 55 points from 21 matches, two points ahead of Xaitan & VSOP.

    Quick update

Go Leo leading the table with 2 points ahead & two matches left. Unfortunately lost yesterday which would have maintained their 5 point lead over second. Thrilling end to the league this season!

    Lion's ready to go wild

There is excitement around Lion's Way, an excitement that has never been experience before in this part of the world.

Go Leo head into the final match of Season 7, Level 7 just a point away from winning their first league title. A 2-0 win over Leonardo today ensured that they have control over the destiny of the championship. Second placed VSOP are currently five points behind with a game in hand but inferior goal difference.

Barnabas Kovacs and Walter Gallo were the toast of Go Leo against a stubborn Leonardo. Kovacs broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half with a blistering shot from outside the box. Gallo extended their lead 15 minutes from time with a firm header off a corner from fellow winger, Matias Madrid.

A point tomorrow at home against Kelvin FC will spark wild celebrations at Lion's Way. Indeed, winning the title on the last day in front of your home fans is what every football club and fans live for. However, the Boss was quick to issue a word of caution.

"We are well aware what is expected of us. We can't take the foot off the pedal right now."

"The club and the players have don't extremely well this season, so we will need to make sure we don't suffer a late slip."

"It's that time of the season when all teams go into the match on equal levels. Upsets do happen, but we will make sure that we live up to our favourites tag."

    Eye on the Champions' League

Fresh from their maiden league title win in Season 7-Level 7, Go Leo are not sitting on their laurels.

They have quickly added four new players to strengthen the squad and it is the Champions League that they have their eye on.

The Boss today expressed the club's desire to win the Champions' League this season, but was quick to say that defending their league title is also a priority.

"We have finally won our first title - a first league title, and to win the marathon was satisfying for all involved in the club."

"Now to progress as a club, we need to eye the bigger prize - the Champions League trophy. We have not done ourselves justice in that competition as our main priority has always been success in the league."

It is understood that Go Leo are building a squad good enough to compete in the Champions' League as well as to mount a respectable league challenge.

"We have brought in a few players which we will rotate for different competitions. The club has very good players on the roster currently and a majority will stay. Players like Matias (Madrid), Walter (Gallo), Danny (Lindskog) were key to last season's success and will continue to be an integral part of the team."

The Boss unveiled four players at Lion's Way today. $9.1M Portuguese striker Luis Freitas, experienced right-winger Kostas Tsilis ($8M) from Greece, German Bastian Kern ($8M) who is a defensive player and $13.5M Mexican goalkeeper Brian Martinez.

"We are pleased to welcome all four to the club. They will play a part in this season's campaign and I intend to be able to put fresh legs for all competitions we are competing in."

The club also announced the sale of Quentin Anani, who joined the club in Season 4 but had a dissapointing Season 7 campaign and goalkeeper Jim Klinger, who moved to partner-club Very Athletic.
