Not Paul McStay!!! :(
Congrats to Buffs on a dual trophy season!
Printable View
Cup: Buffs FC finish the job at home with a 6-0 win (agg 10-0). As the opposition came out again in a 4-4-2 (its almost as if they had no manager ;) ) Buffs Mad switched from 4-5-1V for this to play 4-3N-1-2 and with Dalglish out injured Joe Jordan got a starting spot - James McFadden also featured as AMC with Buffs wingers rested until the half-time switch to 3N-4-1-2.
Scorers: McFadden (2, 37), Jordan 43, 75) & Law (79, 90).
Buffs Mad said "Its a disappointing day to see we only managed 29 shots at goal - but their GK was on fire with 4 outstanding saves."
C'mon Football School, tomorrow I want you to drop a 1 Token fast training guaranteed performing Corner-kicking 7* 14 yo MR/AMR. :D
Please.
You gotta have a dream,
If you don't have a dream,
How you gon~na have-a dream~come~true.
League: Buffs FC get their league campaign off to a reasonable start with a 8-0 win. Buffs started in a 4-1-3N-2 against 3N-2W-2N-3 but changed at HT to 4-ND
Goals: McStay (20, 79 pen, 88 pen); Murdoch (33); McLeish (57); Law (62, 66); McFadden (86) - Joe Jordan had 3 assists.
EDIT: Oh and Paul McStay was awarded an assist when Paul McStay scored his second. 2 for 1 deal? :p
Champions League: Buffs FC are made to struggle at home, after going behind early in the first half, but recover to win 2-1.
Goals: Murdoch (40), McStay (83).
The opposition emerged in a 3N-1-3W-3 and Buffs began in a rather conservative 4-1-3-2 before changing to 4-5-1V before half-time then finishing in a 3-5-2V.
Unfortunately Buffs midfield line gets a chunk bitten out of it as 2 players are injured - Souness (Ankle Strain, 3 days) and Murdoch (Knee Cartilage Tear, 5 days).
Strategy Update
The Board has confirmed that building works on an upgraded stadium will be completed tomorrow.
With only 3 friendly Clubs this season in Buffs competitions - 1 in the League and 2 in the CL Group - the Board will embark on a charm offensive to garner extra support.
Buffs Mad informed the Board that he will attack all three competitions with last years squad. The Board has made it clear that it stands ready with funds (259T & 28m) should the need arise or the opportunity present itself to get raw young blood in for next season.
Cup Q1: Buffs FC score 3 1st half goals and coast to a 3-0 away win.
Buffs take on the Lvl 7s 4-4-2 flat with a 4-5-1V but after injury switch to a 4-3N-2W-2.
Goals: Cooper (1, 40), Hansen 42)
Billy McNeill is injured early in the second half - the diagnosis is a Knee Cartilage Tear (6 days).
League: The Buffs move second (what?) on goal difference (double what?) with an away win in France. Buffs Mad praised left back Alex McLeish afterwards "He bombed up and down that wing all day and required treatment for exhaustion afterwards. In fact it was probably because he was too tired to get back that he got on the end of the long ball for the 3rd."
No injuries to report.
Goals: Henderson (32, 56), McLeish (72).
Pre-match coaching was cancelled so the Buffs emerged in a familiar 4-5-1V against the opposition 4-3-3 and were unchanged throughout.
No Transfers Policy Update
After deciding categorically that there would be no early season signings Buffs Mad spent 10m on a young DML/DMC. New boy Dave Mackay will be the first Buffs player to be trained with a new role - plain old DC. Training speed is borderline as he has only managed 174 on Hard Match Practice. ;) It is intended that while training Mackay will provide DMC cover but next season it is hoped he might take over a central defensive role, if he proves worthy.
Stadium
The Buffs new Stadium was officially opened today by some no-mark celebrity who everyone knew of for 10 mins last year but have now forgotten. Car-parking facilities are under expansion.
Awww man Buffs! A DML/DMC?! You lucky horse! I need one of those players super badly so I may dispense two players I rather hate. lol.
Haha, he trains like a racehorse too. :D
My Football School did churn out a winger, but it was a AML/ML 15 token 3* who I was going to *punt* but just decided to sign him amd see if I could attract a Negotiation later on. It's a 15 token risk but I've yet to experience a Negotiation offer so thought a shiny fast training AML/ML might offer the best chance to see what happens. ;)
Champions League: With Buffs Mad suffering from neck strain looking up at the leaders the Buffs decide to help him out with a 13-0 win.
Buffs Mad said "ooooo, they all look like ants now. ;) "
Goals: McStay (8, 50), Cooper (23, 30), Jordan (27, 37, 45), McGrain (35), Henderson (56, 57, 83), McFadden (84), Nicol (88). As well as his 3 goals right winger Henderson contributed 4 assists for MoM and 2 other Buffs players rated a 9.
Buffs FC played in 4-5-1V against the opposition 4-ND. Buffs now have the minimum rest period until their league match.
League: Buffs FC stepped out in a 4-5-1V against an illegal tanking formation because Buffs Mad cba thinking about anything else. :p
Buffs FC won 4-0 and remain 2nd, 3 goals off the leader.
Goals: Bremner (2), Jordan (29, 76), Mackay (41).
League: Buffs FC stumble to a 1-1 draw against 5th place Jengking FC. Buffs still sit second but expect to lie 3rd after the round of matches is complete.
GK McGregor, Mr Consistency, rates a 3.
Goals: McFadden (54).
Jengking started 4-4-2 and Buffs Mad elected to go 3-4-1-2.
Cup Q2: The Buffs close out the tie with a 4-0 home win (7-0 agg).
Goals: McFadden (36, 70, 89), Murdoch (79). Thankful McGregor raised is game from the earlier 3 rating to the dizzy heights of a 6. :pUnfortunately Paul McStay suffered a Calf Strain (4 days). (Engine hates my MCs.)
Buffs Mad had sent his troops out in a 3N-4-1-2 but hadn't a clue why, so he changed it to 4-3N-3 after 55 mins.
Note: There were a lot of level 7s in this Cup but they've been dropping like flies (unmanaged or offline mode) but there are a couple that I've seen that have been developing and are now more than 1 or 2* better already.
The next round of matches sees the Buffs square up to Ahtariyo again - they finished 2nd in our league last year and were also in our CL group until QF and won the Cup. So we can expect to be up against 4-ND.
Had a similar result today, however the teams where really close in Q so I am not mad, likely title contender :) Good luck for the season ahead :)
Yeah David, these things happen, and again below, we'll recover.....I think *hopes*.:)
Shock Shock Horror Horror ;)
Champions League: Buffs go down 2-1 away to Ahtariyo, closest rival of last 2 seasons .
Buffs started against the oppositions ND with 4-5-1V but after being 2-0 down after 30 mins a switch to 3-5-2V was made. The Buffs however just didn't have the killer touch today.
Goals: Dalglish (44)
League: Buffs FC held to a draw again, 0-0 at home.
Another of those frustrating games against a mid-table side - 11 corners & 3 FKs for the Buffs and 3 oustanding saves for their keeper, with everything being 'deflected' or 'spins off' alongside 42 million 'he had to he was the last'. >.<
Goals: .............................:o
Buffs faced a 3N-2W-2N-1-2 and started 4-ND before switching to 4-1-2N-3
Note to self: Shake it off Buffs Mad and move on. ;)
Back to Cup business tomorrow and the draw could have been worse. Just need to decide how we'll play.
Opponent
http://i62.tinypic.com/2zrl5ch.jpg
League: Buffs FC get back (kind of) to winning ways with a 6-2 away win. New Academy recruit Kieron Lithgow (undecided on new name yet) scored on his debut.
Goals: McStay (23), McFadden (34, 48), Henderson (55, 81), Lithgow (59).
Opposition were set up in a 4-4-2 flat and Buffs strode out in a 3N-4-1-2.
Cup P/O: Buffs FC lose the first leg 1-0 at home.
After conceding in 19 mins the Buffs defense hold up well to the opposition but Dalglish fails to convert any of the few chances that fel his way as Buffs are reduced to shooting on sight from distance, without much joy.
With a 7Q starting 11 advantage the away side strut out in a 4-3W-1-2 and Buffs dig the trenches with a 4-1-4-1.
Despite the set back in the Cup there is still hope: win the match in 90 mins and we're either through or its into extra time. It will be time to pop the brave pills.
Squad News
The new DMC was named Dave Mackay (again) and has achieved 6* recognition for his dedication in training.. The new NordGem MC has been named Archie Gemmill and should achieve 6* soon.
It is hoped in the next couple of days that Alex McLeish, who converted from DC to DL recently, and AMC James McFadden will regain their 6*. Star MC Paul McStay is lagging a bit now and might need extra training to match them.
(Still undecided on what the new Academy training experiment should be called so maybe its time 100+ game Jim Baxter moved on and I can get all creative and call the new boy Jim Baxter - but he has achieved 5* recognition now.)
Its likely that Richard Gough might be moved on too as he's just not kept pace with the rest of the team. Buffs Mad i also on the look out for a new striker so we can expect Kenny Dalglish, Denis Law or Joe Jordan to be moved on.
Scouts
A formal complaint has been sent to NordFA about the performance (or lack of) by Mr Scout. Does he even look at our 'Required List': to come back with only one 22 yo with only 46Q and the only 49Q prospect is a 25 yo DMR which just isn't good enough.
Out
Steady Left Winger Jim Baxter has been moved on for a paltry fee of 2.2m. Buffs Mad's parting words were "Slim Jim has been an excellent servant to the Club with over 100 games, if only he laid off the drink his time here could've been longer."
Bit-part player Billy Bremner has also been moved on for peanuts @ 2.1m. Buffs Mad said "Bremner? I though he left a while ago since I've not heard any fighting on the training ground for ages.".
Former Right Back regular Richard Gough also found a new Club with Buffs accepting a fee of 3.1m. On hearing the transfer news Buffs Mad said "Gough was both a rock in defence and a tireless worker on the flanks. He just wasn't keeping up anymore but will do a wonderful job for his new Club if used properly."
In
Scouted Striker Ally McCoist has arrived in what looks to be the Club's only Marquee signing this season.
Shuffles
New Academy recruit, 18 yo Jim Baxter ;), now has an opportunity to cement his place in the first team.
Training News
Left Back Alex McLeish has regained 6* status, as has recent midfield signing Archie Gemmill.
Scouting
The Buffs remain on the lookout for 2 new young recruits - a DR/DC or /DMR and an AMR/MR. Young Striker Joe Jordan has proved reliable but not the exceptional prospect Buffs Mad thought and has been transfer listed for 7m - his sale, it is hoped, will boost the transfer kitty to the 20m required.
EDIT: And Joe Jordan leaves Buffs FC for a fee of 7.5m. :D
Fixture Update
Champions League: Buffs FC salvage a draw (3-3) against great rivals Ahtariyo.
Buffs Mad was away trolling some crappy forum as his brave charges kicked off and by the time he returned to the dug-out the Buffs were 3-2 down after 70 mins, had 1 off injured while 2-0 up, Otto Teem subbed in an OOP player and opposition scored 3 thereafter. A quick change to 4-3N-3 almost snatched the win.
Buffs Mad said afterwards "They put something in my Irn Bru. They've banned my star defender. They've injured my newly trained DC/DML/DMC. They've given my ever-consistent GK another 4. And my bottoms sore."
League: Buffs FC win 5-0 away to try to put a bit of pressure on the leaders. New signing Ally McCoist scores an early double and Academy recruit Jim Baxter also bags 2.
Buffs Mad was not happy and could be heard mumbling as he walked away "Their striker tried a bicycke kick....why don't my guys try bicycle kicks?"
League: Buffs FC today entertained a visiting side from Malaysia. In fact the Buffs entertained everyone with a 7-0 win that had 4th placed Fire Truck FC powerless to deal with a hot Buffs attack.
*inset other puns regarding 999/911, 'scorching', 'inferno, 'burned' etc*
Goals: McCoist (28), McStay (36), Baxter (50, 76), Nicol (73), Dalglish (79, 83).
Fire Truck emerged in 4-4-2 flat and so Buffs started in 4-4-1-1 through the middle. McCoist was injured (3 days) in the 51st minute and replaced by Dalglish. With the score at 3-0 in the 70th minute wide-men Baxter and Henderson were pushed forward as wingers and focus changed to the flanks to add a further 4 goals.
Nicol, Baxter and Dalglish (sub 52) all rated 9 with the Bubbly going to recent Academy recruit Baxter.
Buffs Mad said "This match was a worry after the opposition had shown great resilience defensively. But now its over and my thoughts are on how to unlock our higher Quality/level Cup opponent from 1-0 down."
Cup Update
Bugger.
Cup PO 2nd Leg: Buffs go down fighting after an 1-1 away draw sends them out of the Cup 1-2 on aggregate. Both Managers watched.
The Buffs lined up against FC IB Mial's 4-3W-1-2 in a 4-1-4-1 hoping to hold out until half-time. A goal for the home side on 11 minutes put paid to those plans and Buffs Mad ordered a switch to 3N-1-4-1-1 since nothing less than a win would do. The match was full of fight and grit but not many clear cut chances - the defences were on top. 1-0 it stayed at half-time.
Nevertheless lone striker McCoist was buzzing and in 56 mins he was clean through and one on one with the keeper when he was hauled down from behind. The penalty was given but the opposition pleas were headed and no card was shown. Buffs Mad screamed "How much do you have to pay for that to happen?" McCoist himself slotted home. 1-1. Game on.
Buffs Mad went apoplectic when Bremner was first to go in the book. Souness came on for Bremner in 68 mins and Buffs Mad was deep in thought. With 15 minutes left both Baxter on the left and Henderson on the right were pushed forward - 3N-1-2N-3W-1. The Buffs harried and pressed up front and it was almost one-way traffic. Hansen and Nicol at the back were still being pressured on the break but were decisive and resolute. But with 8 minutes left the home side broke and tore though the Buffs heart seemingly ripping all hope with it. But McGregor had other ideas as he clawed away what seemed a certain goal. Up the other end it went and Baxter fed McCoist - who again was hacked down.....but this time he didn't get up. (That's 2 injuries in 2 matches for Ally.)
McStay took the FK but was denied by a wonder save from the home-keeper tipping it over the bar. With 3 mins left the corner was cleared. Buffs Mad almost exploded with rage at not being able to get a replacement on and seeing possession conceded. The win was there for the taking but the referee was not playing the game. 1-1 it finished, Buffs were out....but so too was the opposition manager as Buffs Mad butted the grinning imbecile on the way by. Let's hope te referee missed that too.
So same as last season out after missing the FK in the last few minutes that would've taken us through.:p Hulk Sad. :(

Permission to cry? ;)
Fiddled in Post 1 - updated squad, all-time stats and stadium.
Fixture Update
League: Buffs FC take on a well oiled, intensively drilled, solid, well balanced unit, with trepidation away from home - and win 11-0.
The cones are set out in 4-1-3W-2 and Buffs dance around them in a 3N-4-1-2.
Goals: McFadden (8, 11, 38), Henderson (18, 64), Dalglish (45, 80), McCoist (57, 68), McStay (81), Law (88).
Buffs remain 4 pts off the leader and must wait until Round 12 to meet them.
Champions League: Buffs FC calm the nerves after a draw and a loss in the previous rounds with a Sprite-ly performance, finishing 7up. ;) (7-0).
The Buffs were faced with a stuffy 4-1-4-1 formation and opted to start steady with 4-3W-1-2 before changing to 3N-4-1-2 later when Souness came on for McGrain.
Goals: Nicol (1), McCoist (38), Souness (46, 52), McFadden (65, 84), Dalglish (76).
League: Buffs FC welcome the bottom club to Buffs Park and entertain the crowd with an 8-0 win. It proved to be a rather dirty match - Ally McCoist missed a penalty and Paul McStay converted 3 free kicks. The opposition received 4 yellows and a straight red (spitting).
Buffs played a 4-ND against the opposition 3W-4-1-2.
Goals: McCoist (3, 90), McStay (26, 33, 63), McFadden (43, 66), Dalglish (87).
Note: Its been a good start to Ally McCoist's Buffs career: 9 goals from 6 competitive matches and ratings of 3x8 & 3x9.
Champions League: With Buffs Mad too busy spouting crap about Counter-attacking elsewhere and washing the dishes, he missed the match.
Buffs FC were therefore free from the shackles of Buffs Mad's doctrine and romped to a 13-0 home win. The wingers were outstanding, bagging 9 of the 13 goals.
Buffs reverted to 4-5-1V (which they've not played for a while) against opposition's 4-ND. Only downside was DMC picked up a 4 day Groin Strain.
Goals: Baxter (4, 10, 39, 50, 76), Henderson (9, 61, 77, 90), McCoist (17, 45), McStay (24), Gemmill (29).
League: Buffs FC travel to Germany to meet AC Milan. O.o In a stuffy encounter Buffs eventually prevail 2-0 with goals towards the end of each half. The Buffs remain unbeaten but 2pts behind the leader - and they meet in the next match. :D
Goals: McNeill (41), McStay (88).
AC Milan set up in 4-3N-1-2 and Buffs Mad asked the side to experiment with a 4-1-3W-2. But there was a possession deficit (Manager + Supporter watching) so it was quickly (25 mins in) switched to 4-5-1V while Buffs Mad pondered on whether to go 4-1-3N-2 or something else....in the end 4-5-1V did enough.
League: Buffs FC take on the league leaders at home and win 2-1. Buffs move into top spot by 1 pt & 20 goals and remain unbeaten.
The Buffs started with 4-ND against the opposition 4-3N-3 and took a 2 goal lead by half-time. Buffs Mad then switched to 4-1-3-2 to see how it did - resulted in a second half stalemate until opposition got a consolation goal in 89 mins. Unfortunately DMC Dave 'Lazarus' Mackay crawled out the treatment room to last 16 mins before pulling a Hamstring (4 days).
In the second half GK McGregor was given corner and FK duties. He also made a superb save from a FK. Rated 5.
Goals: McFadden (6), Gemmill (36).
Champions League: Buffs FC win 5-1 at home. The Buffs controlled the game for most of the match and remained 1-0 up. The team then go all out and add 4 more goals in the last 20 as Buffs Mad stood on the sidelines shouting "Wingers push on, Strikers work hard and wide Backs get up in support!" Opposition got a consolation goal from a breakaway on the final whistle.
The Buffs started in a 3N-1-4-1-1 against 4-5-1 then adapted to a progressively more offensive 4-4-1-1 from half-time onwards.
Goals: Gemmill (38), Baxter (72), McCoist (78, 86), McStay (81).
Recent signing Ally McCoist has now scored 12 goals in 10 matches but Nordeus have successfully taken a hit out on him. Today he takes an arrow to the knee in the 86th minute causing an ACL tear (4 days) - the 3rd 'sniper in the stands' incident to befall the player. Right winger Henderson also went down in 81 minutes.
EDIT: \o/ \o/ \o/ GK McGregor manages to rate a 6. He's on fire now. ;) \o/ \o/ \o/.
League: Buffs FC win 6-2 away to open up a 4pt gap at the top.
Weird game, opposition looked to be playing in 'offline mode' with counterattacking. Their formation was 3W-2W(DMs)-3N-2 so we set up in 4-3N-1-2. First half saw them score almost immediately after each of our 1st and 3rd goals, a 4th on stroke of half-time made things look better than they were. Buffs Mad changed things to 3W in midfield to see if we could get a grip of things before changing to 4-3W-3 and adding 2 more goals towards the end.
Goals: McCoist (7), Murdoch (19), McStay (36), Hutton (45), Murdoch (81), Law (89).
League: Buffs FC players tell Buffs Mad to bugger off to the pub for a pint cos they don't need him. The Buffs win 7-0 away from home playing ND against 3N-2W(DMs)-2-3.
GK McGregor continues his climb out of the depths with a majestic 6 rating after giving 3 assists. -.- The Buffs remain unbeaten and 4pts clear.
Goals: Dalglish (9, 40, 47), McFadden (16), McCoist (26, 89), McStay (72).
Old news but forgot to mention it, Midas McGonnigal over at Celtic Rangers thanks Buffs Mad and his team for advice given by sending a new Team Badge. :D
Champions League: Buffs FC follow up the 5-1 1st leg win with a 2-0 away win to progress to the next round. The Buffs set out in a 3-4-1-2 against the opposition's 3-5-2 - they also deciced to trial the long ball game.
Buffs Mad said "Obviously the long ball game is alien to my team and I didn't get it right but having lost possession, been down on the shot count, corner count, free-kick count, given away a huge amount of fouls and McGregor making 3 saves......we won't be doing that again."
Goals: McFadden (47), Dalglish (89).
Note - GK McGregor made 1 assist and 3 saves (a match winning performance imo) and earns a stellar 7 rating.
Transfer News: Buffs Mad continues to plan for the transition fro the current defence next season with the capture of a 10.6m 18 yo DC.
League: Buffs Mad couldn't remember what worked vs 4-3-3 before so the Buffs were sent out in a 4-1-3N-1-1. Buffs won 9-0.
After 50 mins Buffs changed to a 3-1-3W-1-2 and Graeme Souness scored the first of his hat-trick withing 2 mins of taking the field.
Goals: Murdoch (9), McFadden (19, 35), Gemmill (38), Hutton (47), Souness (54, 71, 75), Mackay (57).
League: Buffs FC win 5-0 away to continue to lead the league.
The Buffs set out in a 4-3N-1-2 against the Bot's illegal interpretation of a 4-5-1. The first half was largely conducted in troll-mode for 40 minutes with everything blocked or just wide - then came a friendly supporter and 5 goals within 20 minutes, and troll- mode was switched back on.
Goals: McStay (41), Gemmill (42), McCoist (46), Mackay (57), (Souness 59).
Again the forgotten man and bad-boy Souness came on at half-time to score. GK McGregor missed 2 FKs and hardly saw the ball but 1 assist was enough to rate a 7.
Striker All McCoist extends his lead on the MVP charts - 10 matches since his capture and an average rating of 8.4. :D
Transfer News
The fans are not sure why Buffs Mad bought another defender but he did - looks like another Club's 44Q Academy player for 10.6m. Therefore one-trick pony (DR only) Danny McGrain was moved on for 4.8m, close to his MV.
No doubt, due to the creativity of the Buffs Barmy Army, the new boy wil become known as Danny McGrain.
Recruitment will now focus on those areas which do not have sufficient cover, DL and AMR, however current incumbents Alex McLeish and Willie Henderson are still performing to an acceptable standard and there is no rush.
Training News
Buffs Mad has lost track a bit of who is progressing and when but the Buffs now have 11 Scout level players.
The Board has however remarked on Buffs Mad's recent tinkering with new training methods and requested that he ease up on this new high intensity programme, which they see as nothing more than a data collection exercise.
Breaking News - Friends
2 Seasons ago Buffs Mad removed a friend who had started supporting their opponents. Numerous friends requests followed and were rejected. However, recently the other manager has supported the Buffs in critical matches so a friend request was sent and accepted. We will see if it turns out to be a cunning plan to draw Buffs into their league for revenge. ;)
League: Buffs FC today welcomed jenking FC to Buffs Park. Having drawn the away fixture earlier in the Season the Buffs were looking to stamp their authority on this match and in the league. jengking lined up in a hex and Buffs emerged in a 4-5-1V.
Things got off to a bad start when Mackay conceded a free kick in the 8th minute from which the visitors took the lead. Right winger Henderson levelled in 17 minutes with a solo run, cutting inside and drilling home. DMC Mackay gave away another Free Kick but McGregor saved the shot but the writing was on the wall for Mackay and he was subbed on 34 minutes. McFadden came on into the AMC position to switch to 4-2-3W(AMs)-1. Gemmill picked up a booking and was replaced by Souness at HT.
In the second half Henderson knocked in his second from a Baxter cross. Baxter then smashed in a long drive just after the hour mark and McCoist finished the job with a late solo effort on the counter-attack. 4-1 it finished, the wrongs were righted and Buffs FC, still unbeaten in the league, are assured of at least a 4 point lead when they take on the only other side to take points off them in the next league game.
Goals: Henderson (17, 49), Baxter (62), McCoist (83). Henderson's first was the Buffs' 700th competitive goal.
The Buffs now look forward to the CL QF 1st leg against BocBoc United and must find a way to carve open their 4-5-1 flat.
Champions League: Buffs FC draw away from home against Bocboc United.
Bocboc set out in a 5-4-1 and Buffs looked to open them up with a 3-4-1-2 but Bocboc proved to be no chickens.
Dalglish opened the scoring in the 9th minute and Buffs continued to create chances but proved off target too often. The home side equalised after 57 mins and Buffs shuffled the pack to 4-5-1V to push for a lead in the tie. But 1-1 it finished.
League: Buffs FC travel to Saudi Arabia to meet the 3rd placed team, having dropped 2 points to them at home earlier in the season. The Buffs recorded a 5-2 victory and stay 4 clear.
It was a good old 'Game of Two Halves'. The Buffs romped to a 4-0 lead by HT then the home side got a player stretchered off (no replacement) and scored; Buffs Mad thought "A one-off slip up" and they scored again. XD McCoist left it late to maintain his goal-a-game streak but converted a penalty near the end - the home side finished with 9 men.
The home side marshalled its troops in a 3N-2W-3N-2 and the Buffs (hampered by training injuries and suspensions) went ND instead of the 4-3N-3 they had planned on.
Goals: Souness (1), McStay (11, 30), Dalglish (34), McCoist (72).
League: Buffs FC were at home to 4th placed team. The Buffs dominated the match and won 6-0 but the 1st half gave more reward for their eforts with 4 goals. The offense seemed to get lazy and off target with a decent lead.
Buffs stepped out in a ND against the opposition 4-4-2 flat - short passing was the key to today's success against a counter-attacking opponent.
Goals: McCoist (3, 35), McFadden (19, 44), Gemmill (71), Hutton (83).
Now Buffs Mad must get his act together to find a system to unlock the CL opponents 4-4-1-1 to progress.
Champions League: The Buffs 100% Champions League winning streak comes to an end with a 2-1 loss at home.
Bocboc United set out in a 4-4-2 but immediately changed to a 5-4-1. Buffs FC had emerged in a 4-4-1-1. Buffs Mad broke his golden rule by starting in Attacking mode and with the visitors gaining the edge in possession they took an early lead in 7 mins - so Buffs Mad took the intensity back a notch. With the Buffs starting to gain a foothold they were rocked again just after half-time to go 0-2. It would now take 3 goals to save the Buffs so they switched to a hex while the Manger warmed up the subs. Henderson on the right wing then pulled one back.
Buffs Mad completed the switch going 3N at the back, pushing Mckay into DMC and bringing on Dalglish in a 2 man attack to attempt to control possession against this defensive counter-attacking side. A string of corners and a couple of FKs came but still there was no second goal - the away defense was rock solid in the air. A final push was made with Mackay going off and McFadden playing in 'the hole'. Nada, zilch, nichts.......1-2 it stayed.
Lost in the CL? must be a troll. ;)
Somebody is going to get a real spanking in the league for this.
PS. Think I'll go buy a pram and some toys.
League: Buffs FC win 5-0 at home to stay 4pts clear at the top but it was a very disappointing game. The Buffs completely failed to rack up the expected number of openings against a tanking team which looks like someones alt club.
Buffs started ND against some weird crap formation that was designed by a 3 year old child with 10 darts. No Buffs player rated more than 8 and left back McLeish rated a 4 again and will be replaced by an OOP player to give him time to write his memoirs "From stalwart to genitalwart in 4 days". >.< Already being rested due to poor performance were GK Allan McGregor and MC Paul McStay; Alan Hansen was suspended; and wingers were rested. ST Denis Law was sold for 5m prior to kick off.
Goals: Dalglish (13), McFadden (19, 84), Gemmill (20), Mackay (74).
League: Buffs FC slip up in the league with draw away to the 4th placed side, Firetruck FC.
The Buffs had won the corresponding home fixture 7-0 earlier in the season and set up 4-4-1-1 against the home sides 4-4-2.
The Buffs got off to a good start on 19 minutes when the home sides DC got sent off for a push (assault more like) in the box and McCoist struck home. This galvanised the home side who gained in possession and equalised from the last of 3 corners in the 38th minute. At half-time Buffs Mad hauled off the wide men (Baxter & Henderson) and narrowed the midfield with Souness coming in and pushing Dalglish up front - 4-3N-1-2. Possession was gained and a few chances came but a heroic save by the home keeper in 65 mins kept it all square. The Buffs left it late to re-take the lead as McCoist header home a Gemmill corner in the 82nd minute.
With Buffs Mad shuffling uncomfortably as the minutes ticked down the sirens screamed as Firetruck got a corner in the last minute. Hansen headed behind but there was time for another - and it was all the time that was needed as the header went in off the bar.
No further action. Firetruck had snatched a draw at the death. The Buffs' lead at the top is now 2 points.
Buffs Mad kicked a water bottle and it crashed into the rubbish bin. "See, that's how its done!" he said as AMC James McFadden passed by, head bowed.
Goals: McCoist (19, 82).
League: Buffs FC beat the 2nd bottom side 11-0 to reclaim top spot by 2 pts.
The opposition set out i 4-1-3W-2 and Buffs slipped on the cosy old slipper of a 4-5-1V. Unfortunately MC Paul McStay suffered a Broken Foot (8 days) after scoring 2 FKs within 9 minutes of each other. James McFadden AML came on as sub in 73 minutes and scored on the 73rd minute.
Goals: McCoist (5, 51, 70, 85), Baxter (9), Henderson (12), Henderson (28), Paul McStay (40, 49), McGrain (52), McFadden (73).
The Buffs play the bottom side in the next match.
League: Buffs FC successfully Park the Bus against the bottom Club with a 3-0 win away.
Opposition played 3W-4-1-2 with DMC in goal and the Buffs went 4-1-2-3W-0 and got 20% possession. Buffs Mad forgot to change to Def. Counter. but did so after 20 mins. Engine gave the Buffs lots of midfield and defensive mistakes but stil got plenty of last defender tackles.
Goals: Baxter (11, 43), Gemmill (51).
League: Buffs FC faced the 7th placed side at home.
Having surveyed the fixtures Buffs Mad was confident that they had the easier run in - there was light at the end of the tunnel.
As the match kicked off the opposition soon had a dbl corner. They were finding gaps in the flanks. After 10 mins the corner count was 5-0 to opponent and then on 13 mins another one was nodded home - 1-0 for the visitors.
Seemed that the 'light' was the Troll Bus careering headlong into the Buffs goal. Buffs Mad considered switched from Normal to Attacking mentality to check possession/c-a. Down. So the choice was Defensive or go for it. The switch was made to ND on 30 mins. The Buffs equalised on 51 mins and then took the lead in 59.
*Honk honk* went the Bus again as Nicol chopped down the attacker and a Penalty was awarded. McGregor saved *phew*.
Almost immediately Gemmill in the midfield danced his way up the park for the 3rd = 3-1 win.
Goals: McCoist (51), Dalglish (59), Gemmill (84).
The Bus was punctured and the Barmy Army set it ablaze after the match.
Buffs remain 2 pts in front and travel to meet 2nd tomorrow.
Squeaky Bum time? Nah, its already Tattered Ring time. ;) >.<
*Stumble* *Trip*
League: Buffs FC draw 0-0 away to second placed team. Still unbeaten, still 2 points ahead, still trying hard to lose it.....
Formations: meh
Goals: pfft
*gathers up toys and climbs into pram*
So Buffs need a win or draw to be sure of the title.
Final Day
2nd placed team lose to 4th - so the Firetruck (FC) came to the rescue. ;)
Table with Buffs still to play.
4th Title in 5 Seasons for the Buffs.

Player of the Season
The award this Season goes to Striker Ally McCoist with 27 goals from 25 matches and an 8+ average rating in all competitions.
Other Glory Hunting Goal-getters worthy of a mention are:
AMC James McFadden - 28 from 32
AML Jim Baxter - 15 from 17
Most Promising Award
18 yo Right Back Danny McGrain (NordGen) looks a promising development prospect with 5 x 8 ratings in his 6 matches to date - greater focus will be placed on Quality now that an additional role has been learned.
Damp Squib of the Season
19 yo NordGen Alan Hutton has failed to light up Buffs Park after intensive training. He'll be given 6 matches in the new Season as DC to improve or *punt*.
Unscientific Experiment #1
Not nerdy enough (yet) to count tackles, fouls, injuries caused, fks conceded but with 20 yellows and 1 red last season using Hard Tackling and 20 yellows and 0 reds with Normal this Season......we're going back to Hard Tackling.
Injury Count
13 injuries in competitive matches;
5 in Training;
1 in Friendly.
Almost 70% of the injuries (13) affected only 4 players.
Buffs Mad won league, but lost Cup and CL? Forgive me, I haven't been keeping up. Hopefully the fan club president won't kick me out. :P
Yep.
Its hard to keep up because I neglected this thread and Buffs have still not completed the season BUT Sig will always show staus
- League Winners (unbeaten)
- CL QF
- Cup Playoffs
Triple crown next season?
Possibly, but big push for Treble is scheduled for Season 7 and 8 when we should have an experienced yet young squad of 20 & 21 year olds. ;)

Season 6 Start
Buffs Mad had a quiet start to the opening day of Season 6. An early look at the market threw up some tempting prospects but just not quite good enough to merit entering the fierce competition.
Transfer Targets
Buffs Mad remains on the look out for a good young DL/DC and an AMR/MR. Non urgent targets include an additional Striker and new MC cover.
Training Priorities
Buffs Mad has it in mind to experiment with a multi-role winger. 19 yo Jimmy Johnstone, AMC/AMR has been selected for that role. 19 yo Jim Baxter will also be asked to focus on Shadowing the Striker and will receive specialist training in that area.
Prospects in the Cups
Champions League
The Group Phase looks routine. However there is one stand-out contender for the trophy - a 6* Canadian side, 5Q average above the Buffs. It is however hoped that the Buffs will have closed the quality gap by at least half before the Group phase ends.
So the Buffs are not favourites but they will be contenders.
Cup
Buffs Mad breathed a sigh of relief when he was informed that they had drawn a Level 9 Cup (and avoided a Level 10 like the Gypsy fortune-teller had predicted).
Who knows what will happen.
Code:D1 Cup P Kenny Dalglish (ST) Hamstring 3 Days Healed Full
D1 Cup P Alex McLeish (DL/DC) ACT Tear 5 days Not healed
D2 Cup P James McFadden (AMC) Ankle Strain 2 Days Not Healed
D5 League Bobby Murdoch (MC) Ankle Strain 2 Days Not healed
Not kept this up todate. I've had 1 more in-game injury to GK McGregor, 2 days and 3 training injuries since D5.
Best of luck in your new season mate!
Thank you Alfyan, and you too, all the best. :D
Update
Bit of a mixed but acceptable start.
Cup: Karsiyaka were set out in 3N-2W-2N-1-2 and Buffs marched on in a ND. An 8-0 win with 4 goals in each half was enough to plan for the next round. Dalglish hit a hat-trick and was stretchered off in the 1st half. Buffs Mad relaced him with another AMC to go 4-1-2N-2N-1 DL Alex McLeish was stretchered off in the 2nd half and repleced by OOP DC.
Goals: Dalglish (4, 26, 40), McFadden (19, 66, 76), McCoist (81), Gemmill (86).
Cup: Buffs FC step out at home for the second leg of the Cup preliminary and lose 2-1. The Buffs don't have a shot at goal (never mind on target) until 40 mins. -.- Buffs score in 43 mins and concede in 54 and 69.
3rd injury in 2 matches as McFadden strains his ickle ankle and has to leave. Buffs Mad said "Man up, lightweight!" The Cup statisticians throw 6 ratings around like confetti to both teams.
Goals: McCoist (43).
The Buffs Barmy Army chant "You stick your effing troll up yer *toot* *toot*. You can...."
PS. We're through :D
League: Buffs FC stutter and misfire in the new league campaign with a 2-2 draw at home.
Dalglish put the Buffs ahead on 15 mins and it stayed that way until HT. Not long after the restart the visitors levelled. It took until 80 mins for the Buffs to regain the lead after intense pressure on the vistors saw one of the corners converted. But the Buffs threw away 2 points when they were hit straight from the restart. 2-2 after a tight end to end game.
Afterwards Buffs Mad said "Everyone rated 7 or 8 so there were no complete failures but that little something extra was missing. However, 5 FKs without a goal is unforgivable - that must change or heads will roll."
No team won by more than 2 goals today so this might be the shape of things to come in this league this season - the Buffs sit 8th.
Goals: Dalglish (15, 80)
PS: Hopefully no-one noticed that Buffs Mad forgot to include FK Specialist McStay in the starting line-up. O.o
Champions League: The Buffs get off to a winning start with a 5-0 win.
Having neglected his favoured 4-5-1V recently Buffs Mad got the wingers on and AML Jim Baxter helped himself to a hat-trick. Striker McCoist seemed to tire badly suddenly so Dalglish came off the bench for last 18.
Goals: Baxter (15, 49, 55), McCoist (25), Dalglish (78).
Next rounds the Buffs take on a slightly higher Q team in the Cup and an equal quality, long-time rival, in the league.
Come to think of it, I'm only one league above you lol. Lucky I can avoid you for now haha
Do you do matchday reports on both the general discussion forum and here too?
I used to do short bits in the General and bigger write ups on here but it got to be too much. So I just write in General (which I use as a kind of Results Service ;) ) and then copy here so I've got them in one place.
[If I have an intersting game or get inspiration I do a bigger write up here. (Until then I'll just copy 2 days worth over here in the one post).]
Catch-up
Cup Qualifying: Having not been impressed by def c-a on 4-5-1V on the very few occasions he had tried it, Buffs Mad decided to give it a proper go this Season in the Cup.
Opposition set up in a 4-5-1 Flat and Buffs, as above, went 4-5-1V in a Defensive (Force) Counter-attacking stylee.
Buffs FC won 4-0 at home. Buffs Mad was quite impressed given that his Left and Right Backs scored alongside the Left Winger and Left MC. Lone Striker McCoist gave 2 assists. But its early days yet. ;)
Goals: Baxter (28), Gemmell (32), McGrain (59), Gemmill (76).
League: Buffs FC gain a valuable 2-1 away win vs same Q opponent - a fierce rival from past seasons (and one who had a sneaky practice friendly in the wee small hours this morning).
Opposition started in a 4-4-1-1 and Buffs remained in their 4-5-1V from earlier. With a 0-0 stalemate, at half time the opposition switched to 4-3W-1-2 and Buffs changed to Normal and stopped forcing c-a.
Baxter came off the bench to replace McFadden on the left but the home side took the lead in 60 mins after a cross from a FK was nodded home. McCoist soon levelled it as he half-volleyed a Johnstone cross in off the bar. Johnstone was then replaced by Henderson and Murdoch came on for the over-worked McStay in midfield.
In 80 mins Buffs hearts sank as McGrain got a straight red for a shirt-pull on the edge of the box but the shot skimmed the bar. The Buffs were now forced ito a 3-5-1V but upped the pressure and Baxter found Henderson with a through ball but it was blocked. The home side just couldn't get out and Henderson once more picked up the ball on the egde of the box, shimmied right and rifled the shot into the top corner.
The Buffs had to withstand 2 more FK scares and Gemmell was booked. At the death McCoist missed a 1-on-1 when through on goal and as the ball slid past the whistle went.
A tough match and although Buffs shaded possession and shot chances were the same, the Buffs have McGregor to thank for 2 good saves from the 5 FKs they conceded.
Buffs go 4th.
League: *sings* "The wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round....."
..........then they fall off and the Buffs plunge into a precipice of despair as they crash 2-0 away from home.
The Buffs just never got going in a game they should've won.....but didn't. The Buffs are 6th, all is not lost. But.....
Another injury today and MC Paul McStay picked up his 3rd booking of the season.
Champions League: In a pre-match interview Buffs Mad announced that stability and consistency were the watchwords and no radical formation changes would be made with a return to 4-5-1V where possible.
Jaws therefore dropped as the Buffs lined up in a 3-5-2 for the away match vs FC Black White who would play in a 4-1-3W-2. O.o (the idiot just can't help himself)
The Buffs took a quick 2 goal lead inside 10 mins as they went on the rampage. But their fragility to counterattacks, leaving too much space to exploit, saw the Buffs concede many corners and a dbl corner in 24 mins pegged them back. But the Buffs went 2 ahead again just before ht to go into the break 3-1 up. Again a dbl corner from the opposite side this time saw it pulled back to 3-2. It wasn't until the 84th minute before the nerves were settled and Dalglish scored the final goal of the match for a 4-2 win.
Buffs 3-man defence performed well rating 8s and the strike pair rated 9s. But surely the Corner Count at 9-2 to the home side will force Buffs Mad to steer a more stable course? (Doubtful ;) )
Goals: McCoist (1, 37), Dalglish (8, 84).
With the Buffs struggling we look to Affiliate Teams to bring some good cheer today.
Today Thomson managed 4 goals and 5 assists in a league match.
(Not quite as good as Shangalang FC Lee Low's 5 goals and 4 assists of 2 seasons ago but.....promising.)
