Think I might need to add numbers or take a leaf out of Becks' book and use positional lettes in names. Just not easy with multiple Robertsons, Hendersons and Johnstones (not this season) to know who is doing what in a game. >.<
Anyway, performance update.

Performance Highlight
GK Andy Goram's lowest rating this Season has been 6 (3 times)- played 33 games.
Season 14 Result
Bit of a crappy/disappointing season really.
Should've won the league sooner but too many draws v mid-table teams.

Should've won the CL - but didn't!

Squad Performance
Only 2 players failed to average 7 or more:
Fernando Ricksen, MC was a bit-part player with 20 appearances for a 6.90 average; and
Murray Wilson, DMC started as an ever-present, notching up 27 games but faded onto the bench averaging 6.93.
Performance targets for Season 15 include:
- Jack Harper, ST - 40 goals;
- Liam Henderson, MC - 7.50+ average rating; and
- Steve Nicol, DL/DC to reach 320 career matches. :p
Season 15 recruitment
Not done anything significant: bought an MC, 2 wingers and a Striker as short-term subs.
Still on the lookout for 2 long-term defenders (DL/DC & DC/DR) + 1 or 2 wingers.
Season 15 League
Since 4 Season 14 league friends failed to promote the two sides that beat us in the Cup and CL have been added (and are in our league) as was another earlier Cup opponent and a.n. other S14 6* team - to maintain league competitiveness.
Hope it makes it interesting but doesn't blow up in my face. >.<
To avoid messing up cookizzz thread on FKs I'll post in my own little world :pToday for Cup match I changed CK taker on RHS.
Before the match CK specialist had 2 assists (since getting the SA) and his average rating had fallen to 6.60, including 2 5s - no 8s since he started taking CKs. In the match today he rated 8 and scored his 4th goal of the Season. Probably just coincidence so I'll keep an eye on it.
The guy I put in charge of CK on right also scored 1 and got 1 assist from CK. >.< He's either footed and takes FK from left and 2nd in line for the right. Must keep my main ST on FKs from there #gloryhunter ;)
Note to self: this was Cup Match Day 14.
Since winning the league isn't really an option this Season I better set myself something to fix. ;)
This is my worst position so let's see if I can improve on it.:p

Finished.
Look ahead
League: Best we can hope for this Season is 2nd I think since we're only >.< 6pts behind them.
CL: If we can get past our current opponent and his 8* striker (who was crap in our 2-0 win today) there are 2 difficult opponents. One is a Scout Market junkie with 18x SA players between 22 and 28yo. 4 are this Season purchases. I think I've met that team before but can't remember yet where or when. The other side is the team my current opponent finished 2nd to in the group - his side is full SA'd but a mix of youth and experience. Looks like he tanked for 2 seasons before winning the league last Season. 2nd in my Group held him to a draw today so maybe he'll do us a favour ;)
Cup: Nothing much left at all, should be easy so we'll probably bottle it again for a Plate. :o
Commentary
Decided to grab a few commentaries last season to take a look at any possible patterns. But I'm afraid nothing exciting was jumping out at me so I got bored.
The only thing that was surprising - but ultimately useless - was the number of commented players which was higher than I expected.
In 6 wins, the numbers of players commented* were 20/25, 24/26, 22/24, 22/23, 20/24 & 23/25.
(*ofc the comments for substitutions were ignored.)
The Buffs players that received no comments were:
GK x 3 - rating 6,7,7
DL x 2 - rating 7,7**
DR x 1 - rating 0 (sub)**
DMC x 2 - rating 7,7
MC x 2 - rating 7,0 (sub)
(**the unhelpful "One Defender" comment, which appeared 3 times in the 6 matches, could have an impact.)
So that was:
79 Buffs players used
10 omitted from commentary
8 of which had played > 20 mins
1 omitted player rated < 7
no omitted player rated > 7
Only 2 players were omitted from commentary having played a full match - the GK and DMC.
Can't really draw much from these commentaries since no Buffs players rated lower than 6. Need to look at some losses.
Quite often the commentary and the final rating have no correlation whatsoever. Take this recent cup match. I watched the commentary and my GK made several good saves (not the fingertip in the corner variety) and defenders and midfielders were blocking and tackling all over the place. GK got a 7, the two DCs most-mentioned got 5 and 6 and the one that wasn't mentioned got 8!!
Attachment 45282
Yep, when I tried to look specifically at GKs I found that the times the comments matched the rating were just as unreliable as the times they didn't. This is not because I believe the ratings are unreliable (I accept them) but because saves do not make a performance and there was often many FKs, CKs, crosses, 1on1s etc to be dealt with that never make it to the commentary. We occasional get told when he comes to collect and catches it but not when he comes and misses it. Too many gaps - Mcs too are usually judged on passing and ball retention (possession) but stats wise we get nada info.
Thats why I suggested adding some more possession style stats to be added to understand better player interactions with the ball and success/failure.
Commentary can't explain ratings - its too limited (particularly when sometimes it takes 7 or more comments to complete a single event).
OMFG. The draw fairy has come to visit the top teams now as 1st and 2nd drew (I was hoping 2nd would win).
http://i57.tinypic.com/2ekj9t3.jpg
Maybe I can save face this Season and claw my way back to 2nd. I still have !st 2nd and 4th to play in a 3 day stint....soon.
Hopefully by posting I haven't jinxed it. >.<
Striker crisis update - after poor performances 9 games ago led to Jack Harper, ST, being rested, subbed, cuddled and injected with various substances we tried a friendly frenzy last night. In the last 3 matches he went from rating 7, 8 then 9 against alt team, league bottom team and lvl 16 side respectively. I hope (clutching at straws) it means something for tonight's must win match.
You're giving up too soon...

Of course it needed the troll fairy to visit Suzuran FC a couple of times (the third was a draw between them and Sajete Boys), but just goes to show anything can happen...
I'm not giving up ;) I'm just not trying to tempt fate :D
I've come back from 8 and 10 pts before and won. 13pts was a bigger margin so its more hope than expectation....but secretly *shhhh* I'm still hoping ;)
Just don't tell anyone. ;)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
"Lord Nordeus I beseech you. Send forth your Troll Army to Greece (not near Nik ;) ) and France and deliver us our rightful prize!"
Why oh why oh why....?
In the league, I beat 14th twice scoring 13; I beat 12th twice scoring 11; but I draw 1-1 twice with 13th.
Let's file it under "Bogey Team".
Where did it all go wrong?
My Striker scores around 30 goals by Day 14; in 25 matches (yeah I 'work them baby') he rates below 8, 6 times. He gets injured in the Cup. He's rested, subbed, trained, cuddled and spoken to nicely but not until Day 20 does he rate 8 or over.
Let's file it under "Convalescence".
Player of the Season candidates
The season is not yet complete but the nominations are in.
Jack Harper, ST, 1on1 SA - 48 games, 51 goals, 20 assists, 16 MoM, 7.79 average rating (due to 3rd quarter slump);
James Morrison, MC, no SA - 48 games, 20 goals, 23 assists, 4 MoM, 7.45 average rating;
Andrew Robertson, DL/DC, no SA - 50 games (ever present), 4 goals, 1 assist, 4 MoM, 7.52 average rating - not a 6 or lower in sight (so far);
Steve Nicol, DL/DC has already been awarded the Buffs Barmy Army "Cut him and he bleeds Blue n White" Recognition for Commitment having played in all matches this Season and 328 in his career. He also has rated 7, 8 or 9 only this Season so far, not a 6 or lower in sight.
Still some fun to be had around CL spot (I beat 4th today), but who cares...... ;)

Performance Awards
Main Striker Jack Harper picked up the League Top Scorer & Top Rated Awards. He finished second to the Buffs' MC James Morrison in the Top Passer category.
Buffs Mad ignored the Glory Stats in his selection of Player of the Season and opted for the ever-present, ever-consistent Andrew Robertson (DL/DC) - the 21 y.o. played in all 52 matches this Season with an average rating of 7.52.
Jack Harper finished the Season with 52 goals, 20 assists and 17 MoM - although he exceeded the 40 goal target Buffs Mad said "He should have scored 50 and would have had he remained focused."
James Morrison excelled after being given respnsibility for CKs from the left and finished with 21 goals, 25 assists and 4 MoM. His midfield partner Liam Henderson was tagged with the most likely to exceed the 7.50 average rating (and failed) but it was Morrison that went closest out of the MCs with a 7.47 average.
DL/DC Steve Nicol exceeded the 320 match target and increased the Buffs' Appearance Record to 330.
Milestone Achieved
Jack Harper scores his 100th Buffs goal in his 3rd season. :D
http://i59.tinypic.com/5vvg4y.jpg
DMC/MC Experiment
Lord Nordeus got his way with the Boosters nerf and the Buffs had to invest 24T to complete Charlie Mulgrew's training.
http://i59.tinypic.com/2naschz.jpg
Mulgrew has so far played 3 matches at MC and 5 at DMC achieving 7 ratings on all occasions. Lets hope Lord Nordeus leaves him be and doesn't trash his performances from now on. O.o
The main reasons this has been done are 1. just to see if both roles are compatible and 2. to simplify the transition from 451v to 432w1 etc.

Performance Update - Day 10
http://i61.tinypic.com/k9doa0.jpg
Its important to recognise that Stankov and Baxter are both left wingers and I often give them 45 mins each a lot of matches so their stats should really be counted together. This allows me to make my booster sub and bring on an impact player when I need to try to trigger something. Good to see my GK steal a MoM this early - both main MCs have been performing well but Striker Harper just loves the taste of Champagne too much.....maybe I should rename him *Champagne* Charlie Nicholas.
'Stooge' Curly Howard did come on as a sub and rate 8 once but I think it was a friendly (for booster) before I had any other subs. Moe and Larry remain disinterested in this Soccer thing.

http://i61.tinypic.com/2edo4dk.jpg
Season 16 ends with 6 Buffs players playing over 50 matches.
Highlights included:
- Main Striker Harper seemed to bug his 1on1 SA in the second half of season and ended up with 35 assists - so only 48 goals;
- Harper did however break the Club's MoM record with 21;
- MC James Morrison made a valiant attempt again at achieving a 7.50 average rating but after 51 matches he failed with 7.47;
- MC Liam Henderson matched the club record number of bookings - 10 yellows = 4 suspensions;
- 2 players averaged under 7 for the season - the GK that played every game (6.96) and an aging DC/DMC that only played in 25 matches (6.85) and was sold.
Surprisingly I managed to save some rests this season but because my final league match was not unti 10 pm today the devil found work for etc and I spent around 60 of them on Playmaker SA for my DMC/MC just to try it out. The DMC/MC performed not that bad with 6 x 6s and 8s, the rest 7s. (An injury in the second half of the Season hampered his performance.)
I think I'll increase the number of subs again to 6 - 4 was just too few and doesn't allow rest after injuries.
14 players will be carried over into the new Season - a decision will be made on whether the 3 Stooges will be retained thereafter or sold.
6 players over 50 matches? I bet they will retire at age 22... :rolleyes:
Good luck Buffs
Can't find the Cup draw thread so I'll just post here until I sort things out.
Initial findings of using retiring and ooc contract players for new season cup draw is:
Top 14 players by Q count for your draw;
It doesn't matter whether a player is signed or unsigned, its the Top 14.
Implications (some of this is already known):
1. You can't use high Q players being OOC in the new season to lower your Q. As long as the replacements for unsigned players are of a lower Q than the OOC players your Draw Q will remain unchanged.
2. The flip side of this is if you have a team with several OOC players whose Q is lower than the 2/3* replacements then those replacements WILL increase your teams Q for the draw. This has an implication for 'Cup manipulating' teams.....if you have very low Q reserves lowering your Q then make sure they are signed for the new Season, or your 50Q players will be 'replaced' by 90Q ones, affecting your draw.:p
Congratulations :D
Where are the there fireworks and the champagnes ???

Damn the apathy has hit me hard this season (Stupid cup exit). :(
Need to buy some players but cba.
Getting bored so I've been trying to think of something to do when a friend made a Offer on a reserve DC/DMC (just 1T). I looked on the TM and saw another 104Q DC/DMC so decided to buy him and accept the negotiation and see how the new guys performance in my team compared with his previous one.
http://i60.tinypic.com/214j2f.jpg
He rated 77877
New Guy
http://i61.tinypic.com/2sb1n3q.jpg
With the Buffs having failed in the 1st round of the Cup, a typical Scottish Glorious Failure (unbeaten but out ;) ) there were 2 adjusted targets that the Buffs wanted to put in the Club's Record Book.
1. Undefeated in all competitions for the Season - FAILED, we lost a CL SF this season; and
2. Win the league by leading outright from Round 1 - ACHIEVED, 11-0 win in Round 1 put us top and we never shifted (we have 1 league game left but are 14 pts clear with others to play 2).
So to date, in 17 Seasons, the Buffs have:
- 14 league titles;
- 10 CL Trophies; and
- 3 Cups.
Steve Nicol, DL/DC has now played 378 matches - a Club Record. A decision must be made on whether we carry him over and nurse him through matches to reach 400 or bin him and keep near 7* Colin Jackson. (Its not looking good for Stevie ;) >.< )
If he's binned then we'll probably be looking for one of the following players to chase down the 400 mark (a long term target):
- 20 yo GK Craig Gordon (136);
- 21 yo ST Jack Harper (180); or
- 23 yo DL/DC Andy Robertson (236).
It had always been an ambition to get the Buffs MCs averaging 7.50 or over in a Season. Either of Henderson and Morrison have come close in different Seasons but Nordeus scuppered the validity of the target with the ratings changes.
Nevertheless both MCs, Henderson & Morrison, exceeded 7.50 this Season: 7.67 and 8.00 in 35 and 38 matches respectively.
Season 18
Next Season's targets are:
- The treble (hopeful);
- 200 goals in all competitions (highly unlikely); and
- 6 or more goals scored by a player in 1 match (unlikely).
Season 18 Starting Squad

The Buffs Bad Boys got off to a slow start this Season but we are off the mark with suspensions now.
Playmaker can always be relied on to attract a card or 2

and if Henderson is getting away with murder then you can be sure that Morrison gets caught

Season 18 Ratings so far
http://i58.tinypic.com/121quf5.jpg
Hot n Cold Striker Jack Harper continues to show patchy form
In his 5th season, after his 200th game, he rated a 6. I've been trying to adjust his attribute spread and gave him 10 sp in Defence yesterday since he seems to lose the ball too often so maybe that training had a performance impact.
But its unlikely he'll get far into his 6th season before being replaced as main Striker. :(
