I buy excellent players and train them to scout level. Another problem is I don't have the 24 tokens and I don't intend to buy tokens. So I'll just count my losses.

Youth academy is only really 'pointless' in the lower levels.
As you get more experienced in training your players, you'll realize that youth players, once trained are far better value for tokens in the long term, than scouts.
Also, as more managers are active in later levels, it becomes harder and harder to sign players for a small amount of tokens, so you'll turn to your academy a lot more.

I don't claim to be a Top Eleven expert but, if anyone would like advice, please don't hesitate to contact me through 'private messaging', I try to reply as soon as possible.
I got a 4 star goalkeeper through my youth academy a couple of weeks ago and he'll be scout level by this weekend.
How do you powertrain youngens?
What use is there for me signing up a youth player that is 3* for 12T that is going to lose a star at the weekend?
I'm always getting low quality youths at the wrong end of the season.

11 of my squad are from the Youth Academy, 9 of them 5 stars or Scout!
I find it useful.
You only find it useful because you have many TOKENS at your disposal...A 35T player will never find it useful...
The thing is you can get better (5 star) players with the tokens you invest in the youth academy players...
