I keep 4 1* players in my team for a 5+ seasons already and yes, I think my team was drew into a lower level Cup but I have not made it through to 1/8 in that many seasons because somehow I always face teams 2 levels higher than me.
May be i just have bad luck coz on 2 occasions, the team that defeated me in earlier rounds went all the way and win the cup =,=

Also this has made Cup much less attractive to me since I literally make huge losses if i set maximum rewards e.g max rewards 6m x 2 matches, cup rewards 1.5mil x 2 .. a loss of 9mil

Anyway, a good strategy is to keep the free FAST TRAINER+DUAL POSITIONS youth player from the academy and train them for ~5 seasons until they master 3 position, have SA and 1 SKP away from next level. Seriously buyers will offer 5-10 tokens for such players I know I would lol
