    short passing & players positions

dose short pass work better with 442 or 41212 narrow diamond?
am asking that bcz the distance between def/mid/att seem far longer than if i used DMC and AMC which logically make narrow diamond ideal for short passes ..
if that is the case, then for short passing is better to have AMC/AML/AMR and possibly DMC too (although i think is not that important compared to the other 3 positions) while mix is better for the rest

so is my assumption is correct or not?

Its debatable... I was told short passing with flat formations works best. Not been tested though

but flat means the largest distance between each line ...which is not logical !! ..
may be it work with more attacking mentality and more red arrows in teams , meaning more players are going forward to attack ..

Im not sure how this game works lol... if playing whole pitch, your players will be everywhere so short passing could be used then to control the passing

All my experimentation with butterfly comfirmed its the best passing option for the 3-2-2-2-1 also.

In my experience and going by the logic that you've explained - short passes would work better with non-flat formations and even more effective when you focus passing through a particular area of the field where you have a lot of players. Especially when you're playing through the middle as it would simply be dumb to focus all of your team on either of the flanks.

However, this doesn't mean that long passes couldn't be better in some of these cases. For example, when your opponent plays a formation with 5 men in the middle line (flat, ML, 3MCs, MR), then you are doomed to fail with short passes - it's better to try with long passes "above" them to reach your AMs or STs.

I think it is based on the proximity of your players to each other. Some formations there is wide space and it makes sense to not have short, Barcelona-style passing, where long through-balls make more sense.

butterfly, n.diamond, anything where the players are compact, I would use short passing.

that make sense .. so is best to be used when attacking and closing down the whole pitch

it make sense bcz your players are close to each other anyway, having DML/DMR/AML/AMR in between the 3 lines

agree .. if opposition have one line crowded like 5 in mid in 451 flat, is wiser to send balls above them
