I tend to skip the first week except for very late when everyone is asleep.

If you need to be frugal with Tokens, avoid the first couple days. Find when more people are asleep on your server. Buy guys that aren't as close to their next star, just turned 5* are the least likely to cause a bidding war, as no one below you sees them and they are less attractive to those above. Favorite the player you are interested in and wait until the last minutes to see if other managers bid - if a couple do, remove him from favorites and keep looking.

It's hard since I'm lvl 4. Other managers in the same level are my problem. And the managers who seem to bid on every player.

Hey my friend. I want to give you a tip. Today and tomorow the last days of the season you have good chances to buy some good players.
I 'm selling many players of my team that are veterans, 5* or 6* , some of them has SA, with the purpose to buy new 5* at the begining of the season. Yes, they will not be 5* the next season for you (if you go in the next lv) but they 'll be 4* which is also good. They were good players for me for this season but I want better and I can buy them. Also I have on my transfer list some young 20-21 y.o. good trainers that I don't have time and sources to develop more. So if your team isn't wealthy, those days are great. Remember that a team with 4* can be great underdog with the right coaching.

Bid players not close to next star

I also disagree with that. If you read the forum, everybody says that thing. Actually, if you have a rich team it's ok but if don't check this :
For a player 4*, 34Q (we're the same level, 4) there will be a bidding war from players of lv3, lv4 and some of lv5 if the player is young.
If this player was 5*, 35Q and a little more expensive , the things would be more quite.
So, for me Q4 or Q9 are worthy for agents/scouts, were you must pay 50T, so the bigger Q , the better and
for the young 18-19 y.o. 1st class (the most expensive) fast trainers. But if your finance are poor those cases are difficult.

Close to walking away from the game now promotion two seasons on the trot and all my players have lost ratings on season 3 and have been unable to win one auction past week lost around 30 token I had saved up, two games and two losses as my whole team is 2/3 stars.
