How do you choose a captain? I got nice midfielder as a captain, his performance is great after being promoted to captain (maybe it is coincidence, don't know, guy was captain from very start of my play). But he becomes real bully, he spits on another players, gets tons of yellow and red cards.
But question still remains and you can read it right in the name of the topic.
From what I have observed, a captain has decreased performance but gives a boost to everyone else. The better the captain perform the greater the boost.
Which also mean that a captain with bad form will have negative effect to everyone else too.:rolleyes:
Just be careful what observations you link to changes. Spitting can affect anyone, its an 'Achievement' outwith your control so there has to be a chance of getting it. ;) MCs tend to get more cards imo so its always possible without a change of role - but that doesn't mean cards and armband is not.
It really depends on how a Captain's performance affects the team - we don't know but its best to assume it does (just in case). If the cards are giving him poorer ratings then I'd be inclined to pick another player (again just in case). But you seem to indicate its not so its your choice.
I tend to choose a good consistent performer - I switch between choosing one based on fitness and creativity too. But I don't give it that much thought as long as my Captain is getting decent ratings - tbh I really don't think about it unless team form is down and I need something to blame other than me. >.<
I always chooce my best player skill wise. From the point that he has the most influence and there by also towards other players:cool:

Choosing a captain does not affect the game in any way... for now... Maybe Nordeus change something about it...
Captain has an effect whether you notice it or not. Certain player drop form when they are captain, while some get better. There is a turn of fortune or a reverse if you change captains. I usually go for the best over 25 yo performer and observe from there. If I feel he is not suited, I look for the next one.
I'm telling ya again, don't bother, being a captain or not does not affect performance of any player in your team... Players going up and down with form is common thing...

I played many freemium games and legimately exploit everything in them to the fullest effect. In most of those as a f2p player I'm as competitive as most heavy spenders because I know more about that game than they were, that I can put up an even fight despite heavy deficit. In a few of those I went so far that I understand the game more then the developers. Hell, I even called the developers stupid when they released something incredibly broken in the updates.
Don't underestimate the complexity of this game, if a layman can do it they won't be earning millions from this darn thing.
I will do another suggestion as viewpoint, and is to talk about the matches in the sense of different "scenarios".
So you can have a team full of 9* players but you never will have all team with a 9 as rating, because in my opinion the game do a ranking of the better-worst player in % of shoots and so in the team...
Then the game will work in 1 sense if you attend or if you don't. If you attend you have to decide between different actions to affect some different "scenarios" let's say, a match in what you are more aggresive and you can avoid a red card doing a change, a match against a worst Q. team that, is in 8th position but is winning in the 1st half, so you have to change of strategy or do a change to try to affect to the result.
And with all these factors, what I wanna explain is that "maybe" in some "scenarios" the captain have some meaning, but I don't know if affects the team in defensive/attacking mode depending of the player, or, affects in a result simply appearing in some actions, or, in another sense that we really have to "study" more deep.
I say that because as we know there are some factors that affect in "slightly" to the game, slightly in the sense of = in a little %.
For example player in wrong position affect to the possession yea, but team can play better with a ST as AMC.
Red card affects but sometimes in favour of who plays with 10... teh bonus of victory too, affect slightly in some sense.... and usually I talk about more things like these but now we are in the morning and don't have all these stuffs in ma mind but, just will say that lots of things affect sligthly to the game and the captain is 1.
If I have to say in my opinion what can affect more in a result between 2 teams of same Q. I will say that are:
1- Select the correct man for corners and fouls when season starts, because that's usually = 1 goal x chance.
2- Attend the match and substitute players that fail continously or, don't appear.
3- Change mentality.
4- The Bonus.
And till here I writte and I gonna go for ma brekfast. Today seems that raining sttopped and sun is shinning so will stay away enjoyying :o

I've changed my captain before creating this topic and saved changes. But then I thought it may affect my team in a negative way and put him back as a captain again. As a result I suffered my first season loss, and in 2 matches he had rating of a 6 (usually he has average a little bit lover than 8, I forgot when he had rating lesser than 7). Can be a coincidence, but I would like to think captain has some effect on your team performance.

but here we have an equation with known values (stars and quality, age, morale & condition, Value & Wage, types of training, previous team) so I figured out the unknown x, the gaining ability.
Still the are sometimes that it gives different values. eg a 5* nordgen, in same conditions can have a +90 or a +120 which is a big difference. After "observed" the conditions, I figured that it was just random, a roll dice that can affect the gaining, but most of the times the value and the average have a very steady pattern.
So my friend Amane, I wonder in which way you 're making experiments ? I don't underestimate your knowledge about the game but how you figure out about captain behavior ? I can only think of playing 10 (friendly) games, with the same team, with same conditions and using 5 times one player and 5 times another.

I rather agree with Khris, that maybe there few factors that affect the game but this is only a percent of 1-2-3% (?) so it's not easy observe this. Specially if consider the formation & orders which has a big effect in the process of the game as also a roll dice.
My recently experience from this season was that after the star of team, my ST, Neymar, lost his form in the beginning of the season, I set as captain my 2nd best player, my AML Eder. The team is keeping winning, EDER didn't lost his form and Neymar got his form back. :D
I don't know if it happened when I benched him for few games or when I bought another (good performer) ST Zardel and they did a perfect duo.

It's better to have a team captain and have it not matter than have not have a team captain and it does matter!
That said, from my experience I haven't noticed anything to convince me beyond a reasonable doubt that having a captain does matter. I didn't appoint a team captain until level 9, when reading a different thread on this topic.

Borsi was named captain after I sold club's legend Djogovic at half-season 10 and that did not affect his performances...

No I don't have *hard* evidence but it always seemed to happen to my teams over the last 10 seasons.
Friendly doesn't do it. Friendly is incompetitive, the effect of it is similar to training which means the form will natually improve if you play friendly games. Even a bad form player will get his form fixed in a few games, making the test invalid.Quote:

Another problem of a low form player is that he have negative effect on other player's form even when he is not the captain. But if you name him the captain, the result is so disastrous it is difficult to miss.

My reason for believing Amane is on to something are three outlier games. In two cases, my team played sensationally well against high quality opponents matched by an 8 level performance by the team captain. In the third example, I was experiencing unexpected issues beating an inferior team at home until I made a mid-game sub of the captain replacing him with a new captain. The first captain had been performing at a mediocre level (6) and the new one came in and performed very well (an 8). After I had made the substitution, my team cleaned its act up and won the game convincingly.
None of this is definitive, but to me it strongly suggests Amane's is right.
An open question I have is selecting the position of the captain. I have no view on how that relates to ones tactics.

Tanking is harder than you think, specially in first levels playing against newbies. So I thought instead of using illegal formations and players oop (with the danger of cards and injuries) to set my captain the worst player. Didn't help :(
Nothing like using as GK someone else oop (but if your oppo does the same, no result).
Amane, if you want, you can try this experiment with a new team.

-There is no (hidden) motivation.
-Bad form of a player is random and can hit like a disease any player of the team. This has nothing to do with playing many games. If a player is giving many matches then his form going (naturally) as a wave. Some games a 8, some 7, some 6 and so.
-A rate of 6 isn't so bad for a GK ,DMC or MC but it's really bad for an AM or ST.
- I had players that played 3 seasons without being in bad form (I mean continually rates of 4 or 5) even if they participate at most of the games. That's why I use only one GK every season. There is no need if he is good player, fast trainer and being in a good team.
The problem don't lies on how many matchs a player played, but the ratio of match vs training. The best form is maintained through a healthy balance between them, in order to keep the motivation value stable.
If you can use the same keeper for two competitive games a day, and his form never dropped below 7, you must have used green packs on him. If you didn't, you will suffer a bad form GK. Same as other positions.
Form 6 MC isn't that bad but they are rubbish compared to form 7 MCs. MC is the most demanding position in the game which make them suffer the most injuries, cards etc.
Unstable form is usually created by sudden form drop from a rare random event. In such case heavy drop in morale can been seen, when this happen and it could be fixed by using morale pack, the form will stay normal as if the unusual form drop never happened.

I don't belive that rating from previous matches affects injury risk in any way.
What affect ratings however is if the player have had game changing influence, like many saves, assist, goals, card etc. Things in present game, not previous.
It might be possible that a captain might get a bonus % in possession, skill or morale and since the list has 10 slots, all of them might get a bonus on a decreasing scale from 10 to 1. That seems logical, if anything, or else why not just nominate a captain, one slot?Quote:

Season 10 - He wasn't captain in the first half of the season, named him captain for the second half, after I sold old captain, average rating 7.76
Season 11 - He was captain entire season, average rating 7.76

Just like FK takers, only the first one have effect unless he is not on the pitch or injured, then the following one will take his place.
duh, green packs have no effect on anything except to raise condition. If you dont raise condition, you run a greater risk of injury as well as being more tired than your opposition. It does not necessarily mean form will drop, but I will make sure to watch this next time I play 2 in a day. problem is they are putting games at the min 3 hours apart lately.Quote:
