as above. i bought a player as he was 6* and no one had bid on him and he was cheap but hes 33.
ive given him a 3 year contract but on the contract screen the renew button is blacked out and says "player retiring next season"

does this mean i have him for the rest of this season and next? or will he just be with me until the end of this season?

also if the answer is that he will be with me next season, will i be able to sell him in the middle of next season even though hes meant to retire then?

As I remember, players aged 31 or above may retire at the end of the season even though we just signed him with a 3 year contract. Even though they will not resign early, it is hard to sell him. So suggest avoiding signing player overs 31, except for free agents that you plan for using temporarily.

For your information, the maximum age of a player is 34

As it says 'retiring next season', I'm sure you have him next season as well (think it shows as 'player retiring this season' if they are retiring at the end of the current season).

I belive he is gone after day 28, and not in next season

Retiring next season means he will not be playing next season. If you sell him and get bought, then the unfortunate manager will have him for this season only.

You are correct. OP, if his renew button is greyed out so will be his sell button. So you will lose him in 8 days from now.
Unless new app is different you get no warning that a player will retire next season so its pot luck with old players.

PS players don't retire until 32 at the earliest, not 31 as stated above. So if money is an issue for you it is advisable to sell any 31 year olds you have unless they are true match winners. (By which i mean Regular 8+ ratings,3-4 MVP this season)
