I see, and agree. You are wise to be careful.
In fact, I will not sell him until his performance dropped a little bit to, say 7-7-7-7-7. But in medium run, if other players performs well and consistent enough, I will move on and sell him.
BTW, I made a bad decision to sell my all time best scorer of my level 20 team in this season. He was 1 sp to 5*. His training efficiency is quite good even though he's 24. He also well performed early in the season until performance dropped to 7-7-7-7-7 near half season. I rejected a 3 token offer for him in early season, but finally accepted a slightly lower 3 token offer when I noticed that his performance dropped. The player replacing him is cheaper, 18 years old, and low 5*. But actually he is a very slow learner and do not score many goals. At about the same time, I also sold another 4* striker who do not score but is a corner specialist & have many assists. Since then, my striker line are all 5*. They have decent match ratings, but they are poor in scoring. For example, one of the new strikers have half 7 and half 8 ratings. But in 16 matches, he has only 1 MOM, 3 assists, and 0 goal. Now I have to bench him and try to use lower match rating players. Hopefully, my team can find a consistent way to score.
The situation in different levels are different. At level 20, my team should be more careful on financial situation, and on making decisions for long term benefit. My decision may not completely wrong. I may make too many changes on striker line in short period of time.
To avoid long run of sevens, bench him for a game... But yet, if MC has long run of sevens, don't bench him lol... Anyway, I don't care how many stars players have if they are consistent performers... Having a striker who gets good ratings, but not scoring ain't bad thing unless you are losing games... Some of them will get good ratings 'cause they are creating lot of chances to other players who don't score (you don't see all chances in commentaries)
myself if player is going to be a 4 star i sell but always a season ahead so i know if i plan on selling then leave this player 1 skill away from next star so he can go on neg list, this way i`l get token/tokens to use for his replacement

Thanks for your advices.
My team badly performed during the goal drought of strikers. In last 2 matches, I selected to start 2 strikers who just played a few matches for my team but they at least showed some scoring ability. So far so good. Both of them scored two in a league match an hour ago. I will stick to use them for now. Probably they did not play many minutes per match before and so did not have good match ratings.
I know the commentaries do not show everything. However, striker had good ratings but only have 3 assists and nil goal in 18 matches is quite incredible. From my experience, some strikers do not score and will never score. But as this player had good ratings and can use both feet, I will give you more chances later.
The transfer market I faced was very difficult in early season. When I notice that there are less competitions in auctions near the half season point, I have too many transfer activities in a short period. Now it's time for finding the chemistry of players and find consistent performers.
