not scoring when opponent has no goalie

I played a team whose goalie got injured towards the end of the game. The comments said that the goalie was "stretchered off" , which means that nobody was standing in goal for the final minutes.

For some reason, none of my players took a shot towards goal for the rest of the game. I came in a counterattack and had the ball offensively. But every time they either didn't shoot, or they shot straight at the opposition players.
Shouldn't my players just shoot from far away since the goal was open? why try to get into normal attacks?

    That's brilliant!

I might move my goalie upfield in a game and see what happens.
    Kyroshill and Spyros like this.

The game automatically assigns an outfield player to go in goal for your opposition.
