Post a player's profile, and I will show you how it is done using the player's profile as example.

    A * is awarded at x0 and x5Q.
A players Q is the average of the 3 attribute groups.
An sp adds 0.2 to the attribute its added to.

Example: If you know your player will gain his next Star at 105Q then simply work out how far above or below each of the 3 Group averages is away from 105.

Player has 103.2 Def; 103.4 Attack and 105.4 Physical
    thats -1.8; -1.6; and +0.4 = -3.0
so the player is (3.0 x 5)sp away from next star = 15sp

PS. Its not possible for 1sp to take a player to the next star unless the Total Q of the 3 Groups add up to *something*.8

    17.4 | 21.2 | 19.6

    Add the 3 values. (58.2)
    Divide by 3. (19.4)
Subtract from the nearest whole number to the next star. (20 - 19.4 = 0.6)
    Multiply by 15. (9)

So, 9 skill points are required to add a star.
