If you train a DMC with freekick ability then train him to play DC does it ruin his ability?

Incredible! My power trained CM playmaker assisted from a corner (set him to take left as he's left footed).

My main AML/AMC who I may phase out, got a goal and an assist too.

    Happy days!

No. I have never trained special ability. All those players which have SA in my teams are bought with that SA.
Even if I had enough boosters to train SA, I wouldn't train FK or corner kick for defensive minded players.

Whenever that DC-DMC FK specialist from my team takes FK, ball goes wide. I've never noticed in comments that he had shoot on goal and wall blocked it or GK saved shoot.

I have to disagree with your FK experience. some of my best FK SA have been DM(s) and scored more goals than the strikers or AM(s)

I focus the training on the role I have assigned them fx FK

feet is only a visual thing

Some of mine friends had few fullbacks FK specialists which were solid scorers, but I think it isn't often. I mean, there are some defensive minded players with FK Sa which score a lot, but in global, such players are rare. Offensive players are by default better FK takers than defensive.

I've had 2 freekick takers this season. A striker and a DC/DMC and my defensive one is the only one to score 1 freekick so I need to practice with my team members and try find one who finds the net.

    What's a realistic stat, 5 freekicks to 1 goal?

5 freekicks 3-4 goals. Thats, when you found the man. Usually, every season theres a playerr scoring this ratio, at least in my case, last season was Nedved, too I had the GK Cech seasons ago. The list of "who's the better" seems to change for reasons that we do not know, is like it goes by waves, but, I always have 1, that score the 70% aprox of free kicks. Now in corners is the moment of Rozomashvili, and freekicks Beckham.

Thats why I always recommend to test these positions, every match have corners and freekicks so if you find the man, thats = a find a key player, more or less.

I stockpile huge amount of SP on my players.

I rarely give players new star since that will ruin their resale value until they come close to the next star again.
Mostly I give SA to players who accumulated enough SP for it when they are 1 point from the next star, often free youth from the academy.

Since SA require 40 or 50 points while new star requires 75, getting SA has better availability if you want to keep your player at the nego list.

Just sold in negotiation a 23y academy youth with CK ability for 4 tokens
I have 3 players sold this way this season, generating some tokens and 400m
