Motivate players (matc report)

Hi,

Played the CHL final yesterday, and the match went well - small 1-0 win.

Before the match, I had:
- Win bonus at max
- Boosted full morale on all players in start 11
- Full condition on all players in start 11

After the match, the match report had a line that I found weird;
Luis Padilla wasn't motivated enough

This leaves a question for me: How do I motivate a player more?
I thought I allready had done all that I could to motivate, with high morale and win bonus.
Just to be clear, the player in question, was in the starting 11 and is a striker (didn't score).

Not motivated enough means he didn't perform well. You can't do anything, don't take it literally

The bad performance can be that he was a lone striker, against a 3 man defence (DR-DC-DL).

But the text "not motivated enough", and looking at what I did prematch, leaves me with the feeling that there was nothing I could do to motivate that player. If the result of a match isn't based alone on factors that I (and opponement) can affect, what role does this leave me with?
Might only be able to affect 90% of the factors that makes the result of the match, the rest is chance/luck?

In my opponion managers should affect all 100% that makes the result. Since this is a game, chance/luck/randomness shouldn't be a factor like real football games.

@drud in a 3 man wide defence, I'd recommend to keep 2 STs, the lone DC can't handle them. But in a 3 man narrow defence (DC-DC-DC), try a striker with wingers. With no fullbacks, there wings can be exploited to a good extent.

If you try to motivate your strikers with this, you have no chance to get the treble. The happy men will be happy enough with the lovely double...

That would motivate me, but goals are not what I'd be looking to score.

they should add an option "hire cheerleaders" for certain amount of money to get an extra bonus
