Day 6 - Palace Terriers report.
Palace Terriers played at home and had a 7.1Q advantage in Starting XI over their opponents, but as evidenced by their high League position, the visitors proved a tough nut to break. An early goal gave Terriers heart after two dodgy away results against similarly inferior teams, Nikolay Radev spotting the 'keeper too far forward and firing home from 30-yards out. The rest of the match proved a war of attrition and neither side troubled the scoreboard further. DMC Peter Jorgensen got into the referee's bad books late on, incurring two yellow cards in the space of four minutes, but the Terriers closed ranks to prevent the visitors taking advantage of the extra man in the last 10 minutes.
The Terriers took the confidence engendered by the earlier League victory into their Cup Qualifying Round 2nd Leg match at home to a Level 12 team, who were 1.5Q better off in Starting XI. The 1st Leg having been a 2-2 draw, the first priority for the Terriers was to keep a clean sheet, and in this they succeeded spectacularly. The opposition had made a late change in starting formation, so the Terriers Management had to shuffle the players into a reasonable attempt at the counter-formation without making a Q-depleting substitution. That done, the Terriers then asserted themselves and gained a creditable 3-0 victory, to go through to the next round 5-2 on aggregate. The sinner in the previous match, Peter Jorgensen, made amends with the first and last goals, but was pipped to the MoM by recent signing in the midfield powerhouse, Michele Tempesta. His creative work in the middle of the pitch and set-piece work resulted in one assist for Alessio Doratiotto for the second goal, but there were other chances which the visitors' defence were equal to.
