A good defence is the best offense.
It is supposed to be very weak in the middle, hence like you said, likely to concede a lot of goals, especially if attacked by opposing teams through the middle. But, I have noticed it to be strong in the middle in one match where I got a 1-1 draw against a weaker team. I have also noticed other teams using this formation getting good results. This looks anomalous. Something seems to have changed, that is this formation has been over-powered.

Atlético Kolkata Day 15&16 Report
Yesterday I wasn't much happy with the result in league against a weak team, but 3 points will do it in a 3-1 win. I hoped 4-0 or more. Anyway, David opened in the first minute from a DFK. Ten minutes later, newly bought and renamed DMC Eric Dier had to be stretched off for a broken foot (7 days, immediately healed). Torrano striked in 32'. Herrera was unimpressive, so got slated for a substitution in around 70' which didn't came till 81'. Even worse, he got out scoring a goal, with Thiago assisting in 74'. The goal that dented Bava's form came in 88'.
We have one leg in the quarterfinals, but the team in the other bracket is 117%:Thiago opened the scoring in 9'. I wasn't even present.
Today we grinded out a 2-0 at home. In 66', Torrano did the most pleasing thing when you are the giving manager — a through ball. Thiago scored it. In the 85', a foul in by the opponent all but sealed the match for us, as who's taking the freekick? David Asare-Addai. He's scored 10 in his 13 league games so far. The leaders too grinded a 2-0 today, so here it stands:

Day 16 - Palace Terriers League report.
Although the Management try to keep Palace Terriers within the bounds of 35T, there comes a time when the deficiencies of the Transfer Market and the needs of the team demand a Token Injection...
Sunday proved a pivotal day in the Terriers line-up. The appearance of a desired player with AMR characteristics in the Recommendations and a suitable multi-role left-sided player in the Scout List were enough for the Management to splash out on badly-needed wingers to double up on these critical positions, and release some players who were getting little or no playing time.
DC Tarik Chagou, ST Brian Horne and ML/DML Mark Hughes have been released.
The Cup Quarter-Final draw was finalised...
A mid-afternoon League match away at 11th place, 3N-5-2V was chosen by the Management to counter the 5-3W-1-1 formation set by the home side, and a most satisfactory result followed. Roberto Pigatto Baratto and Eisneider Gil made their League debuts for the visitors in the right- and left-wing positions, respectively, Samir Gross moving up as strike partner to Alessio Doratiotto. Gil netted a brace in the first-half, Philip McKay helped a Pigatto Baratto cross into the net early in the second-half before Gil completed his hat-trick with an assist from Gross. Pigatto Baratto then assisted Doratiotto before scoring an individual goal himself to complete the scoring.
