Actually, playing attacking in the earlier levels WINS you championships, but yea, scoring 26 in a season while conceding none will win you a championship.

34 is way too much, our defence concedes usually less than 30 a season. We're now the joint best defence, along with the first place (scored only a goal more than us, same record) and 5th place. We all have conceded only 5 till now. And even more interesting, we all use 4-5-1V

The combination of defensive and force counter attacks is not defensive as such. It is an attacking strategy.

It is not that it does not work; it is about the formation used. Consider your formation (3-2-2-2-1) which I think it is a good formation for countering a defensive counter-attacking 4-5-1(V) using the flanks. On counter, first a winger must be able to receive the ball which is more likely a long ball; the side DMC may block it. Once the ball is received, the winger has only two main choices - either beat the opposing players on the side concerned (which is likely to be 2 as you used blue arrow on the DMC. The DMC blocks the inside space and the side defender blocks the front space) or send an early cross or pass to the middle which will likely be blocked by the DMC. Both tasks are relatively difficult, unless the winger is on form and has exceptional qualities.

Usually in defensive formations, the setpiece is your main source of goals. So you really need a good FK specialist and a CK specialist. Luckily, I have both — the tried-and-tested David, and the new signing Torrano, who had a slow start but is now on the top assists list. David is first on goalscoring list. Our best player is DC/DR Jorge, who's 2nd best in the league. A good back 5 and 2 good setpiece takers are enough for winning a long tournament. See Leicester, their defence have been so good, and they somehow manage to score a goal every game.

It seems so in this game, especially when you use 4-5-1(V) with defensive and force counter-attack orders. Free-kicks and corners are the main sources of goals, especially when you have the appropriate specialists.

One possible reason is that when your team counter-attacks an opponent, his defensive players are more likely to make fouls to stop your attackers or put the ball out of play as these situations are most likely one-on-ones or a similar amount of players for each team in the opposing half during the counter-attack.
