Thats because your currently at a low level - Once your level 4+ or something like that, your 18 year-old 2* star players are wanted by managers that are 3 levels below you.

Depends on your level and how much cash you have, say he is 2*17, if you put him on the transfer market he could bring in maybe 500k depending on timing.
I let the 4*27 go as they wanted 24 tokens for him, OK there is no fee, wages are not disclosed until you offer to sign him.
For 25 tokens I can get 6m from the bank, his Mkt. value was around 2.8m so in effect he still costs you 5.76m. Bye Bye!

I would actually take the 2* and kick the 4-5*, the better player will cost you between 12-25 tokens or something like that. I usually keep the worse player and train him for a season, and sell on the first day of next season.
