Day 2 - Lots to report.
Desert Rats FC continued their hunt through the Transfer Market for suitable replacements for their lower-Quality players. With the departure of Glenn Seynaeve this morning, there was a vacancy in midfield, and this player was available, and snapped up for 2T
ML/DML Unal Ozdemir has left the team.
The new midfielder was drafted into the squad for the 2nd Leg Cup match today, and the Rats had to counter a very attack-heavy opponent.
Garry Crawford got the ball rolling with a direct free kick, then the two MCs combined to give the debutant his first goal in Rats colours, and continue the very long and impressive run of Desert Rats having players score on their full debuts. The home side pulled a goal back after the break, but Patrick Tillmanns helped fellow-substitute Julien Renard poach a thrid goal just before the end, Desert Rats recording a 3-1 win and progress to the next Round 6-1 on aggregate.
Thanks to madflo for the support.
The Management was obviously tired this morning, as he committed the newbie error of bidding on the wrong player - the other two bidders then kept out of the 1st Round and Home Guard FC acquired a new striker...
He's better quality than all three of the others and with a Market Value/Wage of 157.4 could be a good trainer - we'll see. Low-Quality striker Dominic Benjamin has been sold on.
The new recruit was inserted into the starting XI for the 2nd Leg Cup match, and didn't perform very well, and was eventually hooked in favour of Brian Barrett. The rest of the team set about the home side with determination and a little bit of luck, and converted the 1-1 1st Leg scoreline into a 3-2 aggregate win as they clawed their way to a 2-1 victory. Right-winger Nick Gill converted a pass from midfielder Alban Haag in the 5th minute, and right-back Lewis Parkes countered the hosts' equaliser with a 30 yard shot of his own. The home side spent most of the rest of the match in an onslaught on the visitors' defence, but it held firm. Left-winger Steve Anderson became Home Guard's first injury victim, now out for 6 days.
Home Guard know who their first League opponents are, but will have to twiddle their thumbs all day waiting for the after-midnight kick-off time.
