When a player is just performing bad. What do you do with him?

I tend to believe about the hidden factors in TE more and more and one is about players who just don't fit in your team.
I'm not talking about a single match obviously, but we all had those players that disappoint despite their rating or even skills. I decided to bench my CM of many seasons in favor of another younger one hoping he would do at least 60% of the other one who provided lost of assists and goals. This one just sucks and all his ratings are way below his other team mates (his 7 are basically 6.7 and so) . It doesn't feel right when the whole team is performing greatly and he will have a disbalance compared to them. When I sub him the other CM gets a quick rise in rating without changing formation or anything. It's obvious for some reason he doesn't fit in my team despite being my highest rated CM. Should I sell him or maybe there is a chance he will perform better next season?
