It's all purely cosmetic, for your entertainment. If you actually watch the game, you will see that nothing you change have any visible effect on what the players are doing. Short or long, through the center or wings, hard attack or defense, nothing ever changes. The only effect is in your players getting tired slower or faster depending on low/high pressing and zonal vs one-on-one marking. It probably also somewhat changes the probabilities used by random generator when determining the outcome of each "episode" in the game, but those changes are much smaller than what you might be able to notice.

(I imagine, not everybody will agree, but I doubt anybody actually saw a difference - it's mostly about the beliefs :-) )
