beta united 99.0 4-2N-3W-1 Defensive (4-1-3W-2 last 10 mins) - July Fourth 108.8 3N-1-3W-1-2 (3N-1-4-2 last 15 minutes)
Football is a results game at the end of the day, July Fourth were under-par in todays CL Final against beta united and our opponents really played well and raised their game despite planning to park the bus. Obviously they would of had to have a go at counter attacking and getting the ball forward to try and put us under pressure. This was a close nerve-racking enocounter that could of went either way and I am going to say that beta united deserved to win here.
They knew that they were not going to get a lot of the ball and restricted our attacks but we played a game where they didn't know exactly what direction our attacks were coming from. Obviously we went in attacking style that won us our previous recent CL Finals and after a couple of wasted chances from Miku and O'Sullivan early, our opponents came into the game and put the pressure on with a Abuabara shot and eventually they won a corner and it was crossed it and Parkes made it 1-0 to beta united on 18 minutes. We didn't panic or change tactics. midway through the first half we got on a counter attack and Miku thread the ball to Michu to get our important equaliser, you would think July Fourth would finally take control the game from here and win the tie, but we were under more frustration for the rest of the first half, Pritchard took a shot that was blocked by Mensah and again Pritchard had another shot minutes later to be blocked by L.McNamara, Ramirez had a chance late in the first half to give us the lead but Parkes got in the way.
We would of liked to of been infront at HT, but at least we were not behind.
In the second half, it started how the first half finished, beta united causing problems and being equal to us, Michu's shot on 50 minutes was blocked by Kiselev and Pritchard and Abuabara both threatened us again but Ramirez and Adams were able to keep us level, on 61 minutes, Parkes found a way through our defence and he got beta united back infront with his brace by beating Seaman, For the first time July Fourth were in a bit of trouble but we immediately reacted with Norris coming on for Miku to freshen our Midfield options up, Hardy would take a free-kick if we got one. Immediately Miku from 25 meters got us back level from knowhere and then Seaman saved from Pritchard once again a minute after Miku's goal, Adams cleared another beta united corner and Hogan then tackled Parkes who was having a great game, The Champions League Final was there to be won by both teams and it would take a moment of brilliance or a mistake for anyone to win it now. On 74 minutes, L.McNamara ran past a couple of defenders shot past the keeper to put us infront first time in the game, but a spirited beta united fought to the final whistle, and Martin for beta united got an injury and he replaced him with a striker and went for the equaliser, we removed Miku to put an extra man in the midfield to make a midfield 4 line with P.McNamara but beta united had many chances to equalise and force extra time, Marusic took a shot on goal to be blocked by O'Sullivan, Parkes running forward got tackled by Hogan, Then in the 87th minute the drama started as beta united won a corner Abuabara crossed into the box and Kiselev got the header on target and Seaman saved it but Fernandez in the dying moments got forward and Ramirez put it out for another beta united corner. Abuabara crossed it in and Fernandez commited a foul in the box while trying to gain an advantage for beta united and July Fourth just booted the free-kick as far as they could up the field and the referee blew the final whistle and we won the champions league for the 9th time and the 5th time in a row!!!
Commiserations for beta united, they played well and had the better chances and in all honesty they deserved to beat us today. But luck was on our side and we took our opportunities when we had them.
Goals: Parkes (18,61) Michu (26) Miku (66) L.McNamara (74) MOTM: Papaleo.
