A while ago I had some nice experience with DR and DL but especially DR in my case, for few seasons straights my DR and I changed them every season, used to score or to assist like crazy. Why? No idea but it was funny to see them on top all the time. Actually my DR's for 3,4 seasons ended with more goals then my ST's which were pathetic at that time.

Good luck with your player and hopefully he will continue on this line.

The game tend to alternate the contributive players, unless there is some key player, that makes the difference scoring once per match, I bet that the next match the protagonist will be another and this DL will keep the form (going to 8,6-8,4 to bet something lol) been a player worth to keep all season

This is true. Fullbacks used to score 15-20 goals a season when I played a 4-(1-2-1)-2 with a diamond midfield.
