Need a new formation!

For the last couple of seasons I've started drawing and losing matches against weaker opposition and I am sick of it. I'm guessing the problem is my formation but I'm not sure how to fix it. I train my squad every morning to reach the 10% bonus and morale is always at maximum but my team is playing poor, especially bad in FA matches which is getting embarrassing.

I want to change it but have no idea what the best option is. I was thinking about changing the ML/MR into 2 MCs and the 1 of the AMCs to a ST (narrow 4-1-2-2-1) but I've found ST and MC players the most expensive to sign in auctions despite only helping with the training bonus for 1 training section each.
Another option is to only turn an AMC into ST (wide 4-1-2-1-2) but I feel the poor performances won't be fixed by moving 1 player.

I really need to fix this somehow because I spend way too much time on this game every day to be playing so poorly. I always get promoted but I should've won the league and it looks like I'm going to finish 3-4th despite having the strongest 11. I have 162 tokens and 1.6B to spend so i can sign a few players next season but I've put off changing formations for awhile now because I can usually only sign 3 or 4 new players each season that actually improve my XI and it's not worth spending 40 tokens on a player who will sit on the bench.
