    Usually that is the case, but not always.

    I've seen groups that go Gold 1 - Platinum - Gold 1 - Gold 2

    It's unlikely consecutive relegations will happen. But if a group is "Gold 1/platinum borderline caliber" based upon ability, and in platinum just gets served with elite competition in multiple tournaments the danger of returning to Gold 1 in the 1000 or below point range could be cause for concern.
